Couple arrested after leaving autistic son outside bar so they could watch Super Bowl

A couple have been arrested after they left their son outside a bar so they could go and watch the Super Bowl at a bar.

Kristal Valenti, 38, and Robert Valenti, 42, had wanted to watch the Super Bowl at The Beer House, in Florida, on Sunday, but were told no children were allowed in after 6pm.

Rather than going elsewhere, the couple decided to leave their son, who has autism, in their car so they could watch the game. Witnesses called police after they saw him wandering around the car park of the bar, which is parallel to a motorway.

Kristal later told police she occasionally checked on him while he was outside.

According to a police report, the mother’s reason was that ‘it was the Super Bowl and she really wanted the Eagles to win’. Bizarrely, Kristal allegedly even attempted to fist-bump a deputy while discussing the excitement of the game.

A bartender at the Beer House said Kristal was served four beers over the course of the evening, WFTV reports.

The boy’s age was not released by police, but he is believed to be in primary school.

The couple are reportedly married but it is not clear if Robert is the boy’s father.

The Valentis were held at Flagler County Inmate Facility and their bails were set at $2,500. The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified about the incident.

Sickening... I could never imagine doing something like this to my own son who is autistic as well. I wouldn't even do it if he was neural typical. Some people just have no right to bear children.. Totally senseless and immature.. I'm very glad the child did not get injured or killed...

While I'm certainly not defending the parent's actions, people leaving their children in cars for long periods isn't anything new, whether leaving them while they went shopping or even leaving their kids in the car while they would go into the pub and have a drink or two - often with the kids having to bring some books along or something else to keep themselves entertained.

That said, leaving a kid alone for as long as the Super Bowl is (although I'm from the UK my brother is a Green Bay fan so I'm familiar with the NFL) and a kid who is able to get out of the car and wander around near a motorway - possibly without realising the dangers due to his Autism (I don't know how mild or severe the kid's case is) is bang out of order.
