Dealing with a corrupt protected payee

Metalhead

Video game and movie addict. All for gay pride.

My protected payee just informed me that she plans on stopping all payments to my lines of credit and letting my credit score get destroyed completely, stating that my continued use of these lines as her reason for this. I have no legal right to complain, no way to counter this. I just changed my phone number because I already am expecting collectors to call nonstop for the next seven years.

It sucks being considered a nonhuman and a noncitizen by society.

What do you mean? I'm assuming this is about SSI. Can't you just get a direct express card from the SSA and pay your own bills? Forget her or him. That's messed up!

If you're a grown man, you have the right to your autonomy. Fight for that. Forget some stupid payee that micromanages your life!

Surely there's SOME way you can fight back and do some damage.

People like that, they're quick to act when they're sure they're invincible (and they're always sure) but when struck at, often collapse like a house of cards.

Even if you yourself cant directly get at them, something I've learned is, well... there's always a bigger dog.

I would suggest doing some very, very careful research and digging. Which will likely NOT be a fast process.

The #1 thing NOT to do though, is assume you've already lost, or that you're out of options. Because if you do that, then you HAVE already lost. So... dont do that.

Look around, read up on stuff, ask around for advice and such, and above all, dont give up. That's how to deal with jerks like that.

I don't see how they can just stop paying your bills without leaving a trail (or non-trail as it were). It's their legal duty to manage your finances and that means paying your bills. They can't just...stop paying.

"He's irresponsible with money so I just decided to stop doing my job to teach him a lesson" will NOT hold up in court.

If you can post on this forum, you can get in touch with a lawyer. Let them handle it from there.

@KagamineLen
You're talking about this sort of thing?

What is a Protective Payee?
A protective payee is a person or an employee of an agency who manages the clients’ cash benefits to provide for their basic needs (housing, utilities, clothing, child care, and food). They may also provide services such as training clients how to manage money.

What is an Authorized Representative (AREP)?
An AREP is an adult non-household member who is sufficiently aware of the household's circumstances to be able to act on their behalf.

A client can choose whether an AREP receives copies of letters, eligibility reviews, benefits or any combination of these.

Well, I'm really sorry. Especially since all this is happening during Covid too, so that's gotta make it more difficult to navigate.

Like I said before, fight for your autonomy. I'd rather be homeless than have someone else's fingers all over my money, deciding what to pay and what not to.

I guess, until you get this sorted out, all you can do is tell yourself, "Could be worse." At least you're not in Britney Spears' situation.

That's just aweful Len, I'm sorry. I hope you can find a path forward that is peaceful and productive. It sounds like lawyer time honestly. There are some options for that in the USA. Do you go to compass house?

This is defintely icky sticky mess and l hate that fact that it violates your rights, you have been down that path too many times for one lifetime. You may have to summon all your energy to move forward on this but you will be reinforcing the new part of you not taking anybody's crap or gaslighting.
