Decison to continue to take meds or stop

Hi I have come to a crossroads about weather to continue my meds or not I have had major depression in my past but havent been hospitalized since 2012 I have heard bad things recently about depression meds in general and was looking for advise.

If the meds are working for you, I don't see why you need to change a good thing. Going on or off them can be the most disruptive part. Like David Foster Wallace finding that after he tried going off, then back on, his meds, that it didn't work anymore and killing himself. But I don't know your full situation, so that's just my initial 'be careful!' reaction.

Yeah I thought about it and your right I decided to take my meds I didnt realize that if I started to get really depressed again they wouldnt work later on. Not worth risking it when its working right now I guess I just want to be off meds sucks in a way knowing I should probably be on them for life because of major episodes in the past.

Your psychiatrist should see you again ever so often to check up on how the meds are working. Over time, meds will sometimes need to change, anyway, because our bodies grow used to them and may become immune.

Unless they're making you have suicidal thoughts, I don't really see why you should stop taking them -- there are always going to be risks with medicine, hollistic or not, and the only person who could technically help you with medicine is a doctor/your doctor, because if anything happened and it was because of our advice, I know in the USA that we could be charged with manslaughter in some degree. :s

So really, you should speak with your doctor about it. :) There are hollistic approaches to depression, though, and they don't usually consist of pharmaceutical drugs that might help, might not. There are hollistic psychiatrists, therapists, etc... if that's something you're interested in, it couldn't hurt to look into it and learn more/learn your options. c:
