Deeply irritated and scared of very specific sounds

To be even more specific: home appliances.
Mixers, blenders, vacuum cleaners, etc. are my worst enemies. I simply just can't use them no matter what.

I get like that when I haven't slept very much. I'm sorry you have to deal with this all the time :(

Have you tried noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs? Usually when I'm doing housework I just put headphones on so I don't get overstimulated by the sounds of the vacuum cleaner. I do the same when I'm mowing the lawn, too.

I always carry a pair of earplugs around with me, have noise-cancelling headphones and ear defenders, too.

For me it's rap music or any bass-boosted stuff. I've never been a huge fan of it but that stuff puts me on edge & my main priority at the time of hearing it is to either get where it's not, or fix things where the obnoxious party shuts right the hell up with the radio.

This applies to loud movie theater sound, car stereos, everything.

I have the same problem , I have noice canceling earphone that are the size of ear muffs . And work great for those high frequencies you are experiencing.

Are any of those headphones (like the one in the picture) already noise-canceling? Or do I need to look for something more specific?

Earmuffs like those are what I wear when I'm shooting. If it can dampen down the noise of a .308 Winchester going off I think you will be OK.

I try to make more noise then the noise thats bothering me. Your ears will only hear the louder noise. If what they said in the movie 'A Quiet Place' was true. You see there were these aliens that ate people but only hunted by sound. So the Dad used to take the son to a waterfall so they could talk without being eaten. They eventually got eaten anyway, or at least the dad did, so make sure you either take your bigger noise with you or stay by the noise.

;)

I'd go with sound-quieting headphones. The second choice would be earplugs or over-the-ear hearing protectors. There may be a way to unlearn that irritation, but I don't know what it would be. Sound sensitivity is very common in autistic people.

Closed-back headphones offer a tiny bit of natural noise cancellation, but typically noise-cancelling headphones will be specifically labeled for that. I use the cheapest pair I could find (Sony WH700N) and even those can surprisingly drown out lawn equipment, house appliances and all sorts of stuff without having to play the music too loud.

Ok, thank you!
