So I'm planning to go deer hunting in September I will be going during bow season I'm supposed to be going with a friend of mine I don't know how that's going to work out cause he's heading down a bad path if not and just me and my dad will go I hope I get one I'm also planning to hunt elk bear turkey and duck is there anyone else on here that likes to hunt or that has been hunting before if so what are your experiences

PS if if you are an anti Hunter please don't bother commenting on this I did not write this to debate people

I've gone with my dad a few times over the past several years but never did get anything when I was with him; I however don't own a PAL (Possession Acquisition Licence) so i have no guns of my own or have had any hunting licences (though in most areas I don't need to due to me being Native American, so long as I were to ask the local Band before hand)

My dad's made jerky out of deer a few times which was quite nice, and got some venison once, but it was pretty gamey tasting which I didn't enjoy at all.

I grew up hunting and fishing. It's a great way to get in touch with nature, and to know exactly where your food comes from. It teaches you patience, how to move silently, and a bunch of other useful life skills.

When I went with my friend a few times I struggle with being quiet and I threw up cuz my friend and Dad kept talking about bears and mountain lions and people with flashlights and it scared me yeah it's best to go out in the Woods armed but now I know not to do that

I used to go deer hunting with my dad back when I was a teen. He taught me to aim right behind the shoulder and they will usually go down quickly. Which I did and I got 4 deer in 4 years, never lost one, they all went down. His buddies would give me a hard time because I didn't get all wrapped up in it, I stayed calm and did a good job. Where as they would get "buck fever" and get all jittery with the gun. I've never used a bow but my dad does and it's the same thing, but you only get one shot so make it good.

I'm not a big fan of venison flavor, but I do like the tenderloin cooked with butter. One of his buddies brought back a bunch of different meats he got out west one time, and I just remember the bear was really good.

Venison is great, but needs to be marinaded and cooked slowly or grilled at moderate temps. Otherwise it tastes like a shoe.

I went hunting with my Dad a lot as a teen.
I never hunted because I never learned to use a gun. Hated the noise of a deer rifle and always
plugged my ears.
We lived in the country at the time and all wild game was used for food.
I liked venison, but, it does have to be cooked correctly.
He did teach me how to help him dress (skin and prepare) the deer and and other animals he
got for food.
His boy named Sue. ;)

My husband hunts deer on our land. He shot a buck in January and we just picked up 75 pounds of meat from the processors/butcher for our freezer. I had them process the deer into steak and all other meat into hot link sausage.

We marinate the steak meat in milk for several hours to reduce any gamey flavor, and then make venison stroganoff or steak fingers by dredging it in flour and spices and sauteing it in a mixture of butter and vegetable oil. I usually cook the sausage on a sheet pan in the oven for breakfast or to eat it in a roll like a hot dog or sausage roll. I also use the sausage in Cajun seafood gumbo. We eat the tenderloin cooked in butter usually the same day he shoots the deer as it is the best part. It's important not to overcook it or it will be tough and gamey.

I like venison. It is good, clean, organic meat with virtually no fat in it. And we have an overpopulation of deer so no guilt here.

I am a gun person and I shoot a lot. However, I do not hunt. I just go to the firing range and poke holes thru paper. I do not have anything against hunting and I have eaten a lot of wild game. I do believe that when a person harvests wild game, they should eat it. Idaho is a big hunting state and there are a lot of reports wasted game. Some people kill animals just for a trophy rack, or worse yet, just to be killing something. That kind of hunting is not right and I believe that most of the hunters here, would agree.

I want to be a bow hunter I'm a really good shot with a bow though I wouldn't mind going gun hunting either though I would have to have help with the gun
