Dentist

I thought I did well again at the dentist as usual. 30 years with no fillings. Yay! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else experiences the same as I had done today. I always manage to keep it under control, but I kind of laughed a little while I was getting treatment and pretended I needed to cough. Wasn't thinking of anything funny in particular, think it's just a nervous thing lying there having my teeth checked. It was awkward, but managed not to let out a giggle again, therefore I was tensed trying to not let it out. Is this linked to autism or is it normal to laugh? :/

I put it down to when I'm nervous as I giggle when having acupuncture, osteo or sports massage, and at the dentists. Never thought to associate it with being an aspie though, interesting.

Wow, you are blessed! Due to several GERD, I had to have 3 teeth removed in one go! And just a couple of month's ago, I had to have another one removed, but all thankfully, at the back.

I don't laugh, because I am too busy praying my stomach will not be nasty and start growling on me, which inevitably happens when I am nervous and yep, I do giggle and often teased for it.

I hate the flipping dentist and only go when I have no choice, because I do look after my teeth, but they are not kind to me and so, when ever I go for a visit, it ends up with more visits.

Green with envy lol

I was at the dentist a few days ago and while I was relieved she said I didn't need fillings she did scale and polish which was very painful and just as bad as the drill.

I was at the dentist a few weeks ago myself and felt ok mostly. I do get tense when I am around anyone except my husband, so that part is just "normal" for me at this point. I just have to let it go and let it be what it is.

Dentist-specific behavior... I tend to be a model patient for my ortho and dentist, not sure why. I just abide by the rules, do as I'm told and all that... and even make small talk but I rarely make eye contact. I figure they are just as awkward as I am about small talk with a total stranger anyway, so I just roll with it. I really could give a damn and just want to get out the door as quickly as possible.

The dentist terrifies me. Do I need to go into the grocery list of sensory issues involved?! Lol.

Recently I went and visited a friend and accompanied her while she went to the dentist for an extraction. She thanked me later for being there for her, as she was incredibly nervous about it. Who could blame her!

I still thank my parents for putting me under when the little thieves stole five of mine. The descriptions of the sensations and sounds were enough to give me nightmares without actually experiencing it.
