Deviant Art is going downhill ...

I think during one of the site's unnecessary 'upgrade', they somehow made it where you can get penalized and labeled as a spammer just for talking to multiple people at once :( My girlfriend's notes just got labelled as spam and I can't respond back now, thanks to ingenious of the site designers :|

This has never happened before the last time I was on the site a while back and it seems like every other week I'm getting notices for site changes and bug fixes which I'm beginning to seriously dread now.

Another problem is that the site is going to loose it's users if they don't do something about art thieves. While maybe half of the complaints are probably genuine, there's still factors like over-reacting when someone makes a character or OC that closely resembles another (which isn't stealing).

I tried to organize a wide-site protest where people don't buy a single thing on an important day where DA would profit the most from and I think if enough people participated in this, DA would probably notice a huge drop in sales and actually listen to the people.

I don't like the big change in YouTube and think these 'upgrades' are really unnecessary most of the time ... I miss the days when you could customize your YouTube profile/channel ... :(

Have you tried contacting the appropriate people on dA? I'm sure if you let them know about your girlfriend's notes being marked as spam, something would be done.

I deactivated by dA account and even blocked the site a few months ago because the weirder fan art/fanfic was bothering me too much, but I agree that site changes like that are usually unnecessary and I hate what they've done to YouTube. The only reason I'm still on YouTube is that there's a lot of good content on it (well, and also how long I've had my account and how many memories it holds). I like it for that but I hate how complicated its design and features have become.

Yep, when I was penalized for spamming or posting a few comments under a minute and they pretty much told me to read the FAQ's (which didn't really help) :/ I had to wait a while until it lifted after a day or two ...

I think you could just use the Google e-mail service, G Mail, without creating a YouTube channel. I stayed on YouTube because there was a few channels I liked (Team Four Star, The League of Super Critics etc ..) as well as getting into YTP ...

I dunno why they are constantly changing the way YouTube looks and how the site works and DA is getting kind of annoying with endless self righteous and opinionated stamps that's either self pompous or one that's controversial and meant to start crap storms :|

I'm on DA as a premium user and have been for the past 2 years or so (every since joined up), I put up a lot of my work (thus I guess I'm a somewhat active user) so I've seen weekly "updates" to the site plenty.

But for some reason they don't bother me . The way I use DA, it works fine with any of those updates. I for one haven't run into anything disturbing in the sense of functional overhauls. But perhaps my way of using it is really simple and "basic" compared to some users. As for spamming through comments; meh... I rarely comment or anything or send messages.

Speaking of "basic" I think the same goes for Youtube I think. Yes, I notice the overhauls they implement frequently, but as long as I can still use the "watch later" button (or whatever it's called in English), can find it easily, the search option for videos works and I'm able to make a playlist I'm good to go.

To me there's probably over 75% of functionality I don't even use (nor ever wondered; I wonder if X is possible as well) for either Youtube or DeviantArt for that matter.

On the topic of "sites that change"; Facebook is one of those as well. Plenty of people have expressed their dislike for those overhauls and some seemed a bit unnecessary. But perhaps it's also to what you're used to. I was used to a certain way of using FB, then some changes came along and I had to change how I interacted with said site. If I were to sign up now (and didn't know about how it worked in the past) I'd learn a different way of interacting.

Sometimes I wonder if developers working for these websites just come up with changes to make their job still relevant for the site they're working for. I mean, if they're not making changes (or "improving") there's no reason to have these people on the payroll.
