Diagnosed with Level 1 ASD in 2021 and I'm excited to join this site!

Hi!

All my life, I've known something was off about me. I had no idea what to say in conversations after saying hello. I was generally awkward and shy. I really wanted to make friends, but didn't know how.

I found out the hard way that going up to a random group of people and saying "Hi! Do you want to be friends?", wasn't the right way to introduce myself.

In 2020, I was researching social skills and came across a website about autism. It explained what the symptoms are. Everything finally made sense! I have Autism! I booked an assessment, and got my diagnosis about 9 months later.

My hobbies are: Origami, cooking, and geography!

My current special interest is learning social skills.

I'm currently studying for the Cisco CCNA exam, so I can become a Network Technician.

Hello and welcome.

Glad that you found us. I’m imagining you will find much understanding here. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Welcome. It is good that social skills is an interest. Master that even basically and you will grow. When breaking out of my cage of social dysfunction I read all I could about social communication. Then, I started joining activity groups to practice being social. I looked for those that were accepting and cooperative. I hit paydirt with Sierra Club outings. It was the best thing that happened to me when I met my future spouse on a trail maintenance project when I called her to see if she wanted to carpool.

Welcome to the autism forums I just joined the forums today as well and so far I'm loving it here everyone is so kind
