For the last five years, ASAN, ADAPT, Not Dead Yet, the National Council on Independent Living, the Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund, and other disability rights organizations, including AAPD, the Arc, and Easter Seals have come together at local vigils across the country to mourn the loss of people with disabilities murdered by their family members, bring awareness to these tragedies, and demand justice and equal protection under the law for all people with disabilities.
Today, we would like to announce the release of the Disability Day of Mourning website, a memorial to people with disabilities who were victims of filicide. Each victim we have identified has their own memorial page, sharing what information we have about their life, their murder, and who they were. You can visit the Disability Day of Mourning site at disability-memorial.org. The site is continuously updated as new cases are found; if you have additional information for us, please send an email to [email protected].
There is just one week left to sign up to be a site coordinator and hold a vigil in your area. Don't forget to sign up to be a Day of Mourning vigil site coordinator.
