Mohammad Khan and his daughter Sonia
The disabled daughter of a Peterborough shopkeeper flung herself on her father to shield him from two men attacking him with a baseball bat and wrench.
Brave Sonia Khan (25) who has cerebral palsy, limiting her movement, protected dad Mohammad (64) as he lay on the floor having been “hit in the leg and back.”
The assault in broad daylight was at the family home in Clarence Road, Millfield, which is adjoined to Mr Khan’s retail store AD Clubhouse which he has been running since 1994.
Ms Khan was asleep downstairs in the house when her dad heard loud banging noises against the back door at 8.35am. After opening the door he said two men accused him of breaking their car windows before assaulting him.
But Mr Khan denied any knowledge of the alleged car incident. He said: “They pushed me and one of them hit my right leg and I fell down. Then my daughter came and she started screaming.
“She lay on top of me so they couldn’t hit me. I could not get up so I was helpless.
“I’ve been living here since 1961 and I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s disgusting.”
Mr Khan was taken to Peterborough City Hospital after the assault and is currently using crutches.
Ms Khan, who also has Asperger Syndrome, said: “I was scared because I was on my own and I could not do anything. You do not expect that on your doorstep.”
Police said two men aged 22 and 32, who were known to the victim, have been arrested in connection with the assault and bailed to return to Thorpe Wood Police Station on March 21.
A police spokesman said the assault was an “isolated incident.”
