Does Anyone Play a Band Instrument?

Salmongirl17

I'll try to make a full return
;)Just wondering if anyone plays any instruments-- I play mallet percussion in my school's concert band, and vibes in my jazz band.

I used to play the Trombone in band and I still remember how to play it after all these years lol Now-a-days I'm use my keyboard piano as a creative outlet :)

I used to be vocalist in a few local metal bands. But I guess mileage may vary to what you consider an "instrument". Also worth noting I'm using the word vocalist, rather than singer. Some genres don't necessarily lend themselves for "singing", heh.

I also play some guitar, though back when I was in bands, that was mostly contribution in song writing and not as an active live guitarist. And along those lines I took pretty much the entire "electronics" department under my wing. Samples, programming loops, drumcomputers, synthesizers and such. I tend to be a bit more old school in that regard I guess, since I do like to use such sounds without laptops but through actual dedicated hardware samplers. The creation and structuring however happened with help of a computer.

The times I played on a bass guitar I didn't do that bad (compared to what I do on a guitar), I just don't own a bass guitar and never really got physically involved with a bass guitar when other people were involved in a band set up of sorts. I sometimes pick up the 6 string bass of my friend if I'm over though.

Currently I'm really not that active with music though and playing the guitar has fallen to the background for most part. I tend to play around with Reason a lot more now anyway, though it's often more to try out ideas than actually flesh out some ideas. All in all I tend to have a bigger interest in production, sound design and music theory (anything from odd time signatures and polyrhythms to musical scales) rather than playing instruments.

I wish I could play an instrument :P

I used to play piano, but was only very basic at best. I can't read musical notes, as hard as I've tried to, so can only play by ear. Either that, or go through the entire music sheet, and write little letters underneath each note.

I play drums professionally and ukulele unprofessionally. :p Also lookin into learning the Kazoo, but i hear that takes years to master.

I was totally a band geek. Good times. I love the vibes! ONe of my all time favorite instruments. I wish I owned one.

Oboe. Pursued it for a long time, but it wound up driving me insane and I haven't touched it in years. I was pretty good, but I don't miss it. But I still very much enjoy the music, and I love going to symphony concerts.

Like a drum machine program on a computer ? I always wanted to get into the trumpet :D

Yes, I have always wished to play trumpet, also. When I started in 4th grade, I debated between trumpet or drums. well, I chose drums, of course!
Later, last year in 6th grade, I switched to mallet percussion.

Drums, piano, a little guitar and in school I played, but have mostly forgotten, the clarinet and xylophone.

I play xylophone! It rocks.

Concerts are amazing. I went to my first real concert a few weeks ago with my school's concert band(field trip).

Oh cool! I'm saving up for a vibraphone but they're so expensive! I used to play drums(I kind of still do for some stuff), but I'm only in middle school so time will tell.
