Does this mean autism?

Hellooooooooooo!!!

My niece has just turned 3, and seems quite forward in her speech development (she was speaking full sentences by 18 months). But whenever there's a lot of people she suddenly melts down and craves for sleep. At the weekend her parents organised a birthday party for her, inviting some children from her nursery, but she suddenly became overwhelmed by it all, got tearful, wouldn't leave her mum's side, then fell asleep throughout the whole party. I asked if maybe she might be unwell (caught a stomach bug or something), but she was fine before the party and was fine again after the party.

She's a very chatty little girl, seems sociable when she's around family, and even gets on well at nursery (although she was a bit anxious on her first day and didn't want her mum to leave her there but that's quite normal for a child of that age).

Was just wondering, is it normal for any child to feel overwhelmed at a birthday party, even their own? When she's overwhelmed she goes into tired mode and goes to sleep. She seemed too overwhelmed to join in her own birthday party.

Both my (oldest) sister and her husband are NTs, and this sister only shares a dad with me but he and all his family are NT (I think the ASD, ADHD and anxiety comes from my mum's side). But I guess my niece is still related to me and so stands a possible chance of catching ASD or ADHD. I hope not though. She seemed to be doing so well.

I think we touched on a similar topic a while ago. The differences between an introvert and an autistic when it comes to this sort of behavior, that is, being mentally exhausted around a lot of social activity, chaos, and noise. Basically, the introvert doesn't have all the communication difficulties. Time will tell. She just may enjoy people in small doses.
