enjoying videogame music more than the traditional one

nuskone

I NEED WAGECUCKERY
i'm trying to listen to one new album a day minumum to keep myself at least a bit culturally active, but no matter what i always end up being more attracted to soundtracks i hear from videogames

one example:

what a track

i don't know if its because videogame music is composed with such a particular mindset that it tends to be more enjoyable to me or if its due to the emotional attachment i get from the game itself but since i was a child i always preferred it to normal music

anyone feels similar?

YES. Yes.

I feel like a total outcast when it comes to this, but to be honest, I just cant stand any music that has lyrics in it. The fact that nearly all songs are about A: love, B: relationships, or C: how great some guy's girlfriend is, doesnt help. Talk about boring. But mostly, the lyrics just get in the way of the actual music, as I see it. It's not someone's voice that I want to hear, it's the instruments and such. With very rare exceptions.

I tend to prefer more intense tracks, so alot of my favorites are things like battle/boss themes. Quite a number of the ones I really like are mildly bizarre in some way or have something about the style that just makes them odd in general.

A couple of my favorites right now:

Absolutely my sort of thing, those themes. And some of the best and most unique battle/combat/action/boss/whatever music I've heard. That second one, I sometimes refer to as the "you're screwed song". Dark Spire was a *really* brutal game. It takes after Wizardry in alot of ways. Even the SMT series of RPGs dont match the sheer amount of absurd crap that Dark Spire will put you through. And if you were hearing that particular theme, there was a really high chance that a game over was imminent due to the face stomping you were about to receive.

I could honestly list examples of game tracks I like pretty much endlessly. The entire SMT Nocturne soundtrack for instance, or the music from the original Binding of Isaac.. Though I expect alot of gamers actually wouldnt recognize most of the things I could list since I'm not fond of AAA games and dont play those. But alot of people know those two at least.

boy if i feel the same
and thats not to say that i don't like vocals, its just that so many times they're just unintresting to me, which is why i like stuff like metal where voices just blend with the rest of the composition in a way that does not feel invasive
i also like when people experiment with voices and try more creative uses that don't just involve singing

this one for example, it's very vulgar but i love it

Yup, me too. Sometimes from series/movies too.
I think this should be coupled with the fact that Video (series movie) music is actually made so that you still can focus and think, while improving on that.

One of the very few pieces of lyric music I like

We like what we like and vid game music is appealing and makes sense to me.

I love almost all music-- though I am NOT listening to any love songs right now due to domestic violence from my ex I cannot cope with romance right now-- but vid music is awesome!!!
