Experience with cannabis or magic mushrooms?

I will start by saying I live in a prohibited state in the bible belt, but my experiences with cannabis have been generally positive. I am however curious about psychedelic mushrooms. Does anyone here have any experience with them? I've done plenty of research, and know that environment, people you're with, etc. all play a part in the trip/experience. Please share any thoughts you have!

I am also curious if anyone has experience with microdosing psilocybin, in regards to treating severe depression & anxiety.

I read this as "Experience with cannibals or magic mushrooms?" So when your post started with, "I live in a prohibited state in the Bible Belt," I thought, "What are we getting into here???"

I'm glad you're not eating people :)

I know that the idea of microdosing psilocybin is a new hot topic of discussion. I've never microdosed psilocybin but I question what exactly "microdosing" means in relation to psilocybin. Does it mean taking an amount so low that the person can't actually feel any intoxicating effects at all but the substance is allegedly giving a therapeutic effect? If that's the case and it actually helped with anxiety or depression I could see it might be efficacious.

However, if "microdosing" psilocybin means the person feels mildly "trippy", even just a little all day every day, I personally would consider such a feeling to be a form of hell on earth. Yes I've had psilocybin and also LSD. I would never want to feel that way even mildly all the time. During my lifetime I found that an extremely small number of people in drug culture REALLY liked psychedelics to the point of taking them habitually (ie trip) for extended periods of time. This is my own opinion based on my own experience, but the small number of people I've known who got into psychedelics to that degree are people I'd never want to be somewhere alone with in a remote area. I kind of backed away slowly from such people.

I realize you're talking about microdosing, but again, what exactly does that mean in relation to psilocybin?

I love picking mushrooms, the tricky thing about it is that often deadly ones resemble edible ones....
So even a small dose of say a death cap isn't a good idea.
psilocybin....um, yes, saw plenty plenty growing in woods but was tossing if up as say need extra garlic...can eat all of them because small and tasty for pasta.

Disclaimer: I am a recovering drug addict and I am biased about the use of drugs because I believe that many people, like myself, will not ever be able to use them appropriately or “as prescribed.“ I realize this is not the case for everybody.

For a therapeutic effect, it is definitely meant to be the former, where you take so little that you don’t actually feel any noticeable effect at all. Somewhat like an antidepressant, where the work is happening in the background over the long term.

It quickly becomes a slippery slope, however, because it is so new as an idea for treating different types of symptoms by a healthcare professional.

As it is currently used for “microdosing,” however it seems like it is mostly people experimenting with their own stash and taking tiny doses, but that is such a slippery slope and it ends up meaning something different to everybody. Many people are doing what you described where you feel a small trippy effect and calling that microdosing, when really that is just an excuse to day trip in my opinion.

One of the current modes of using psychedelics to treat depression and anxiety does not involve a microdose, and it does involve a qualified health professional with whom you spend your entire trip. After lead up counseling, you will take the drug in the presence of the therapist and they will remain with you and process things as you trip until it is over.

I have not been through this, and the idea of spending an entire trip (which can last 6 to 8 hours, plus the residual effects) with a health professional sounds excruciating to me.

Otherwise, recreationally, it’s definitely an interesting experience. it would be important to be in a safe place with people that you trust, or if you are experienced, possibly by yourself.

One of the things to consider is that people have widely varied experiences with hallucinogenic drugs. If you already have a high tolerance for being on drugs, that may make you more able to have a happy trip. But, especially with our different brain chemistries, it can be a unique experience for everyone.

As far as weed? Most people can handle it, but for any real drug addicts out there, “weed maintenance” is still drugs. The concentrations in which you can currently buy different forms of weed is so high that it can act like real drugs. Only the absence of weed gives you a truly clear brain, no matter how minor the effect seems to be. It suppresses dreams, changes your senses, and can allure the addict just as something stronger can.

I'm unsure of the exact dosage, but the psychedelic effects are supposed to be negligent, if present at all with micro dosing. I saw a documentary a while back about a man with cluster headaches, and shrooms were the only thing that stopped them altogether. He just took a small amount ground up and put in to empty gelatin capsules.

I am curious about your experiences with psychedelics, you should expound on that.

When I started to work on my PTSD, i made inquiries about using MDMA as an ajunct as I read extensively of its therapeutic effect in that context. However, when I needed to do some real soul searching to deconstruct much of my negative thinking I found that 10 mg THC : 10 mg CBD let me dig deep in recovering traumatic memories and my dysfunctional responses to them.

Can I point this out politely....
Drugs topics keep coming up, of course it's advice and experience and is relevant but can we pls keep it on a section for those who search this.
Some people just concerned about promoting this especially with unemployment rates and whole site takes feel as though this is what aspies do all day. It can be a discredit.

I'm one of those guys who did all kinds of drugs and walked away unscathed. Enjoyed most of them. As I got into decent employment and considered starting a family, I lost interest. 'Shrooms were nice, kind of like LSD light. No experience with microdosing.

The environment needs to be relaxed and safe. Probably more important is that you need to be relaxed and safe. Bad trips can be caused by dosing too high or drug interactions, but more often are caused by the personal demons you brought to the trip.

When setup seperate section for drugs, it has gigantic disclaimer on entering. You're brave rodafina to share this and thank you because some of us are having a troublesome time.
Be strong, the drug wear off and within time we stabilise to find ourselves again. I used to blame myself for way my life turned out, people still look down and can't physically see what's wrong. It are ate me so many times. During participating in narcisstic thread I coined this by saying that having a disability can cause pain when you unable to perform certain tasks to receive approval or love of a parent. So just remember you are iron-strong to have come thru this!!

Thank you @Kayla55. All words of encouragement are valuable to me. I identified myself as a problem user a long time ago, it was just a very complex and confusing road to get to sobriety. Some of us get lost on that road forever, so I am grateful to be where I am now.

I micro-dosed this morning as it happens.

No trippy effects. Sub-hallucinagenic dose. Can't really say I find it a slippery slope. I've had 3.5 grams last me over 4 months and I still have over a third left.

I find tripping quite tiring as it lasts 5-7 hours. So micro-dosing now and then suits me fine.

It's all part of a process. If you go to a substance with some sort of idea of escape, salvation or safety - then you'll probably end up dependent if you have a lot of ongoing struggles in life. Addiction rates for neurodiverse conditions are higher than average compared to NT society.

Tolerances build with any substances. When I go to a friends house to buy weed I see the joints people roll and they're ridiculous size, and they finish one and are rolling another within 30-45 minutes. That's one way to melt your brain.

I use very low doses when it comes to weed as well. There's no point being a glutton about it - that's just a way to mess up mind, body and soul.

If you enjoy it, that's fine. But you need to be working on multiple fronts if you with to use it as a tool in life. Balance is key, and people should address, diet, exercise, hydration, stress, screen time and such like, as these will all help with longevity and mental cohesion.

I know some people who do too many substances, and I've been around people who've suffered traumas, and struggles. From weed and booze up to coke and crack. There are patterns in those who are addicts. Pain - and a need to manage that pain. Substances can provide a temporary relief, and for some, that relief is enough to take up so much of their time and energy in pursuit of more.

Unfortunately, it will never be enough if you don't feel like you are enough in yourself. With so many addicts that I have gotten to know, there is often a deep creativity, sensitivity and light - but there is also shadow, doubt, fear and instability. That need to self-sooth is a commonality we all share, but for those who have known a lot of suffering in life, the need to self-medicate is a much higher, and prolonged risk.

It's a funny old world. If you want to try them, approach with an open mind, in good company and an environment where you feel safe. And remember - less is more.

Hallucinating on weed runs in my family, so once it started to happen to me I quit immediately. I'm not really sure what mushrooms would do to me so I never wanted to find out.

I was always more of an alcohol person, but when you fall in love with something like that it eventually has to end.

I habitually use Weed, it helps with my anxiety, I have also used shrooms, and LSD, shrooms was more of a mellow trip for me as I was in southern California at the time, and night was rolling in, and I could see the "Northern Lights," in the LA night Sky.

The last time I had LSD, idk if this will make any sense, but I was able to perceive my reality, and 4 others at the same time, so I was able to acknowledge 4 other "possible realities," for my life or what if variations.

I have friends around me who, saw some crazy things, one thought he was talking to the Devil, I self reflect while under the effect, while others seem to use to escape, that's my opinion.

Here's the problem; when they experienced that they were high on drugs.. :) That's a problem. That sort of makes everything not count.

Sure that is an opinion on it, but I guess we could say the same for near death experiences, when they believe they met/heard God.

It's not a meaningful experience that anyone should be trying to glean any message from.

Also I said I was able to perceive those other what if, possibilities, I never said it was a life changing experience, or that it was profound, only that I experienced it.

^ This is kind of what I figured as likely in at least some cases when someone is a proponent for "microdosing" psychedelics...

That’s definitely been my experience, but like I said, I was in a circle of addicts. Sounds like people like Ragamuffin are using it differently. The key is a sub hallucinogenic dose.

with weed, the first time i smoked, i felt like i was a cloud. it was amazing. all my pain gone, my body moved freely, i socialised better, walked better, all sorts of improvements. i tried magic mushrooms twice. first time, i could not stop giggling. the second time, i had mushroom juice. everything was so vibrant and vivid and cool looking, my usual body pain was gone, it started raining in the city, and i loved walking in the rain. was an interesting night. the only thing i have had massive "visuals" with, is LSD. i have had that like 3 times in my life. really enjoyed it, and had good conversations, went for walks, had good giggles too
