Move if not suited for off topic.

I went down the stairs of my new house without my glasses and it felt disorienting… I’ve been wearing glasses for the past twelve years. I’m myopic so I can’t see things far away. My iPad right now is close to me but the text is all blurry.. I can make out some words it just hurts my eyes and I find myself constantly hunching over to type or watch something. It’s not even that far.. just a few feet from my eyes. Is this from a far or close distance? I can’t tell. I can see things that are super close to me no problem like my hand without my glasses on.

When is the last time you had your eyes checked?

From my late teens through my 20s and 30s, I needed a new set of glasses every three years or so because my prescription had changed. I always first noticed it was time at night when I was driving.

It’s normal for your eyes to change over time.

two years ago. My mom needs to schedule my eye appointment

I've had a separate prescription for lenses at the computer for many years. Preferably with lenses that focus no further than sixteen inches from my eyes to the surface of my monitor. Having astigmatism complicates things as well, with my left eye more prone to blurring than my right eye.

Luckily the lenses I use to watch tv also seem to work well while driving or looking at long distances. But for my computer, nope...I always need that other prescription. Otherwise I easily get eye strain.

Have to admit though, using a tablet must put a spin on the distance you view it, depending on where you are and the small size of the viewing area. (I'm using a 27 inch monitor).

That is so true. In my mid 20s I had 20/10 vision and I was quite happy until one day.... Well to make a long story short I went from no glasses to progressive lenses seemingly overnight as I have a poor sense of the passage of time.

Now, I cannot read at normal distances or long distances absent them. Although I can function perfectly well in most other regards without them, I need them to drive a vehicle because of that reading thing.

I believe the measuring system is different outside of the US (?), I have myopia and I'm at -5.

I have no idea what 20/20 means :D

What does 20 20 and 20 40 vision mean?

Near or Far: What Does 20 40 Vision Mean? | Kentucky Eye ...

Someone with 20/20 vision doesn't have razor-sharp vision, but sees things at 20 feet that most people who don't need vision correction see at 20 feet. Hence the vision of 20/20. A person with 20/40 vision sees things at 20 feet that most people who don't need vision correction can see at 40 feet.Mar 4, 2019

I'm pretty overdue to get my eyes checked tbh. Last got an eye exam (and new glasses) back at the end of 2017.

Probably should schedule that soon, I can already imagine I've gotten more nearsighted since then (I have been nearsighted my entire life).
