Facebook have been accused of refusing to ban a vile page attacking autistic kids, despite angry protests.

Upset parents who begged the social network site to remove the Moms Against Autistic Children thread were told it did not "violate our community standards".

Katie Fitzgerald, of St Helens, Merseyside, was one of them.

The 27-year-old, whose son Riley-Jack, three, is autistic, said: "I went on for advice and was faced with all that horrible stuff. I could not believe it."

The page was finally taken down after thousands of complaints - and intervention by the National Autistic Society.

But other insensitive copycat pages have since appeared.

NAS policy chief Sarah Lambert said: "This kind of hate speech is deeply offensive to those living with autism."

Facebook is evil and just a clever way to gather mass amounts of information and wealth...it made me smile to see Zuckerweiner's own page getting bombed with his own monster

That's odd considering that Mark Zuckerberg is thought to be on the autism spectrum (Asperger). Besides this community is clearly against Facebook rules.

Well, I've said this a lot and will keep saying it. Facebook is a breeding ground for misinformation and hard feelings.

Facebook is not highly moderated. It upsets me less to see a page like this on Facebook than the page of a more pernicious group like Autism Speaks. The only effect this page has is to get people angry at it, and therefore to make them stand up for autistic people. Autism Speaks, on the other hand, promotes bigotry in a more subtle way, and as it does so, it makes people think that the attitude of Autism Speaks is good and that by adopting such an attitude, people are doing something good, and that by giving Autism Speaks money, people are supporting something good.

Facebook allowed turmoil to slip by and then stepped away from it under pressure. The copycat stuff is normal for the way society interacts in cruel manners and trolls will always be trolls as long as the internet exists.
My take on Autism Speaks is that they want to eradicate a disorder and not try to help those that have it...
If they can get rid of us they no longer have to feel ashamed that they never dealt with us in their past ;)
