Fading memories... WW2

This week a 95 year old member of our church passed away, I will be at the memorial service tomorrow afternoon...

He served in the Canadian Navy in Hong Kong during the war, he was the ship photographer

When he came back to Canada he just lived a normal life, had a family, worked, etc... And always had a strong interest in photography, I'm fairly certain he kept taking photos almost until he physically couldn't (he developed alzheimers at the end)

Just reflecting since I heard the news, the veterans of WW2 are rapidly passing away, very few left now... Just like all the Great War veterans are long gone...

Time passes so fast sometimes

Always good to remember our Veterans.
My grandfather served in WWII.
Drafted was made a clerk because he could type.
Was sent to Alaska for most of the war to help with training.
He could ski and so taught skiing to Mountain troops.
Once told me about a time when there was supposed to be a mock attack but the defending unit didn't get the message and so used live rounds, Luckily there where no fatalities but it was a near thing.

A couple years after he died my dad and I retired his flag on a scout trip.
We dug the grommets out of the ashes the next morning and returned them to my grandmother.
It meant a lot to us.

Time does seem to be flying by, our youngest son had his 36th birthday last week. Our oldest is 50. How did that happen?

There's a WWII museum in New Orleans, LA that is well worth the trip to see it. They even have a enigma machine. The displays have videos and recordings of soldiers and others' first hand accounts of the war, including a section devoted to women who helped the war effort such as 'Rosie the riveter' and in other construction activities. The landing craft used on D-Day were invented by a guy from New Orleans who patterned it on the shallow draft boats called pirogues which Cajuns use in the swamps to this day. People's personal accounts of what they did and experienced during the war are fascinating.

I just wish to be any memory in this aspie guy l like. l enjoy any memory with him. lol. Maybe he would smile so much more.

My grandmother drove a ambulance in that war l believe. Sure enough there was some guy trying to pick her up. She says he was a double agent. Hey, she was gorgeous, thats all l can say in her defense.

HAHA! Good on her for her perception. No defense needed.
