Falling Asleep in the Day

Does anybody else sleep in the day? I for one, do not. I have only ever done it 3, maybe 4 times in my lifetime. When I wakeup, for the remainder of the day I feel terribly weak, have no motivation and constantly think it's the morning and next day. I'm posting this because exactly that just happened. Willow wasn't feeling too well and was asking for a hug, so I'm like mmmmkay. So I went n gave her a hug in bed, next thing I know I'm fast asleep. I did have a fairly long and arguably awesome dream though. I'll have forgotten it all in 5 minutes though, nevermind. I've fallen asleep in this situation one other time and the other was from pulling an all nighter and falling asleep at 12pm the next day.

This effect only occurs if I fall asleep in the day though. I can stay up till 8am in the morning and sleep, still being fine or any at any other point and have no effect... which seems a little odd. Guess I have to get up and do things for it to take it's toll.

Another question I will pose in here: Has anybody else read in their dreams? I can't remember reading any letters or numbers in any context. I can see patterns and be told this information, but never read.

I had heard that you cannot read in dreams, so if you can read something then you are obviously not dreaming. So one time, maybe 15 years ago, I was dreaming that I was in my grandmother's house and that she and my mother were alive again. So I picked up a newspaper and started reading it, since I knew that I must be dreaming and this was a good chance to test the theory. It was just like reading a newspaper when you are awake, so much for that.

Sometimes I dream music when I am asleep. Just a few bars, but usually something that I have never heard before and that would make a good starting point for a song if I was at all creative in that way. I have never written music while I was awake.

Dreams don't imprint themselves on your medium or long-term memory, so you need to write them down while they are fresh in your mind. Judging by the fact that this was an "awesome" dream, you were hugging your girlfriend, and you are 17 years old, I'm guessing that it really wasn't the sort of dream that you can write down anywhere your mum might find it.

My sleep patterns are all over the place, made worse by the fact that I have been out of work for over a year now. I sleep during the day, wake up during the night and use the computer, all of that.

I find that if I eat carbohydrates for lunch that I really, really struggle to stay awake during the afternoon, to the extent that I occasionally fall asleep sitting upright in my chair at work. Which can be a problem if you are being paid a lot of money to pretend to do important stuff. So I try to stick with meat and salad at lunch time.

I do that a lot of the time. Despite it sounding awesome and being fresh in my mind, it can be incredibly hard to write down since there is no reference other than your hazy memories.

Yeah, I know... A lot of the details are gone, but I can still retain the basis of the dream. I was at this bridge with Willow near where we live and underneath the bridge there was a sort of floor... with a load of computers on it slightly to the side, under the bridge. We were both at school... there, Willow was doing school work and I was hacking something school related. Unrelated, we'd both entered this competition to win one of two "SH" four by fours (cars)... these 'SH' cars don't really exist, but they were very vivid and seemed real. They looked really cool despite the front passenger door being like a bus's doors. The writing on the back that said 'SH' was in a red font with white stroke, almost the same as Ford's writing on the newer Ford Fiesta Zetec S's.

Anyway, we went to this old mansion type place for this competition but I've no idea what we actually did in the competition, that part is a blank. Anyway, we won one of them. There was a rich red coloured one and a darker blue coloured one... we chose the blue one. Willow was driving and for some reason I had to shoot the other car with a paintball gun on the way home... it wasn't a normal paintball gun though, it was like... a shotgun that fired a sort of spray of multiple paintballs. For some reason I wasn't strapped in and the doors were open so i could shoot... we went round a loud of insane corners and daft hills so I was nearly falling out all the time. I kept spraying a load of other traffic with the paint, that was fairly amusing... thus concludes. Weird ****. :D

LMFAO! I can just picture that in my head.   :D

Yeah, my sleeping pattern is messed up so i'm used to sleeping during the day. I find that if I sleep during the day I wake up still feeling tired and sometimes with a sore head. As for dreaming, I've had my fair share of weird dreams. I recently had a dream were I was in the studio with Dr Dre recording an album and he was teaching me how to do the vocals or something. When I woke up I was like "WTF?" I had a very weird dream last night but can't remember it.  :( I've had plenty of other weird dreams too but can't remember them either.

One dream i've had a few times is that i'm with my family in a car and we are crashed/sinking into a lake in the middle of the night.   What's even more scary is that my brother had the same dream. He mentioned it first one time we were talking so I know he's not just making it up or copying me.

TBH, I read quite a lot in my dreams.
I remember having to complete a crossword after killing Jesus in street fighter... I swear to God... that dream was so awesome... XD.
But I've been on Aspergic in my dreams. I know that's sad. I've also been on Soda which is another forum in my dreams and I woke up and all of what I had read was ********.
There's been times when I'm semi-asleep and semi-awake, hard to explain, where I've read entire pages in quite a lot of detail too.
That was interesting.
I actually kind of enjoy reading in sleep 'cause it's always very interesting content.
Even playing minesweeper in my dreams for some reason seems so much more interesting.
I've fallen asleep at around 6 PM a couple of times because I've been so exhausted from not sleeping. Also when I'm sick xD.
But going back to reading, I've read posts by people on WP who claim to have entire dreams which are just text, so I sort of doubt your claim, <number>.

@Calvert - Lol, Dr. Dre. That one about the car sinking into the lake with your family doesn't sound too good. :( I've had plenty of dreams where I've died before, but never with my family... which is... kind of good? Or something? I guess? Lol. XD None recently.

@Emor - Interesting about you reading. :P I've never read a thing in my dreams, just kind of weird. The only reason I mentioned it is because I thought nobody could but one morning Willow claimed she'd read a street sign. And I can go a peg 'sadder' than dreaming about Aspergic (I have too btw. lol)... I used to dream about Runescape and World of Warcraft all the time. :( Oh I remember the disappointment of waking up and finding my wildest dreams weren't true.

I do lucid dreaming, i can hear sounds, see and feel and control my dreams.
But when i was very young i only had nightmares till the age off 16! Every night i got scared out off bed for no reason crying and crying and crying, sometimes even having nightmares with my eyes wide open....

My Last dream was about hearing a gunshot it was so loud that i woke up and went outside to look what happend... But nothing did happen...

Just a week ago i woke up, went to my mothers room and asked her if she wanted to drink something and went straight to bed again and gone sleeping again. Later in the morning my mother was asking wtf i was on about; i simply couldn't answer, i know that i asked here the question but not why

@Chris I've had that dream a few times now. It freaked me out a bit when my brother mentioned having it as well without me telling him that I was having it. I don't know what it's supposed to mean (if anything). If **** hits the fan then at least I can swim lol.

@kurgen   :lol:

@Chris, i don't sleep by daylight just because of my work, but i am the slowest of the company...slow in walking and working just can't help it

I was once about to fall asleep and then I heard such a loud beeping noise I jumped, and couldn't see clearly for a couple of minutes. IT WAS SO WEIRD.(In relation to your gunshot thing).
I personally don't have nightmares that much but I think that's more down to me not being scared of much anymore.
And Chris, I've dreamed about other video games. Like when I was playing Burnout for around 3 hours a day I dreamed races, but that's not a big surprise since I knew the tracks off my heart by this point xD. Also bejewled and as I said previously minesweeper and I think Halo back when I was playing it around 6 hours a day or so... good times (Y). LOL.

EDIT: I also had a phobia when I was around 11-12 of getting viruses and had genuine nightmares of my computer not turning on or getting a horrible virus.
It was weird because I'd often come up with solutions during the day.

Burnout ftw, spent many hours on that. I've never dreamt of any... 'elementary' (right word?) games such as bejewelled, minesweeper, solitaire etc though. :P

Very high-pictched iirc. Why?
IDK really, Chris, I just was so obsessed with Minesweeper I was spending hours on it a day and started to play games in my head too :S.
Same with Photoshop and patterns on squared paper.
Has anyone also ever seen amazing art work and paintings in their dreams?
I see it all the time o_O.
It was weird, last week I saw an amazing picture of someone nude(well, 3 people actually), and then today I noticed it was very similar in style to a picture I favourited on DA.
I can still see that picture very clearly o_O.

I sometimes have dreams that relate to an event. For example, when I watched Scooby Doo the movie (donkeys ago now) I had a dream that night that I was being chased through a field by a vicious dog. Scared the **** out of me.

@Emor & Chris Burnout rocks!  B)

Hmm. I wondered as a child whether or not it would be possible to 'watch' or 'playback' an entire film in your head, lol. Has proven impossible thus far.

I used to have nightmares but I cant think of a way to explain them. It was kind of like I saw something that was so mindblowing, it was scary. Ill try to find a good way to explain it. Its weird. I'm getting goosebumps writing this and I cant even remember the dream!
