So today I started watching this horror movie called Irreversible. It's a very NSFW movie so I'm not gonna describe it in much detail. But there's this one moment that really spoke to me and got me to pause everything just so I could tell you guys about it.

The movie has very weird camera work. The camera goes around in circles and it can make small details you might want to see impossible due to how fast and chaotic everything is. The scene that made me pause everything was this one early on where this guy is running around this dark building filled with tons of people. The camera is doing what I described earlier but now there is this harsh ambience/droning playing in the background and he seems really stressed out and irritated and ready to attack someone.

When I saw this bit, I thought to myself "Hey, this is what my sensory overloads feel like!". I was so surprised this random horror movie I decided to watch was so relatable in this sense.

Has something similar happened to you?

I can't think of one off the top of my head, but yes, I think that sort of sudden relating to something fairly intensely does happen to me.

Iv seen Irreversible and i know exactly what your talking about (i think ). Its where the camera is zooming through that bdsm night club thing with the music droning on in the background, very surreal.

Also, Irreversible isn't just NSFW, its NSFL. seriously y'all, don't look it up unless you want to see a really disturbing film! Gaspar's films in general give off really negative fatalistic vibes, not for the faint of heart!

I dont have anything that resembles a "panic" moment so I'll go with something a bit different.

I generally have very vivid and surreal dreams every night, and on the very, very rare occasion that I have one that might be termed a "nightmare", it kinda tends to look like this:

Specifically, skip to 12:19 and watch from there.

Seeing that in this game, complete with that horrid abomination (not the one in the thumbnail), well... yeah. That feeling of "been here before". "Horrible rusty pipe maze" is very accurate to the most recent dream of that type, too.

Yes. That's what I'm talking about.

Also I just saw "the 9 minute scene" right now and I'm so surprised how much I was able to pay attention to it despite it all happening in one mostly static shot.

So your nightmares are basically Silent Hill?

Right now I frequently dream of receiving minor injuries that are unusually painful. And yes, for some reason I do feel pain or at least the impression of pain. I sometimes wake up screaming from those.

I've seen some very well done surreal camera and affects in films.
Some of them do remind me quite accurately of a sudden sensation I can get in public
and noisy, brightly lit buildings.
I feel anxiety then the odd sensations of sound and what's around me hit.
It is called derealization and I must find a place alone until it leaves.
No noise or crowds.
It is a by product of anxiety my therapist told me.

@BrokenBoy I hear what you mean from listening to that song.
More like repetitive sounds.
Has an affect to the ears, similiar to a strobe does to the eyes.
