First snowfall of the year

Yesterday was the first major snowfall of the year, it melted by the afternoon with daytime warmth, but there is more on the way in upcoming days... With temperatures well below average, the historical average is 12 Celsius for this time of year, we'll be sitting at below average for a week or two... *sigh* This would be western Canada perspective

That's beautiful! We often don't get any snow where I live other than occasional flurries. But we did dodge another hurricane last week!

Looks our cold weather was postponed to the 21st...then it will get quite cold. Otherwise it can snow here as early as Oct.10th. Might be a "La Niña" year for us.

Most places in Canada get 6 to 7 months of snow and cold weather, it's part of living here, most winters we will get a stretch of a few days with -30 Celsius, we just learn to bundle up!

It has been over 100F here for 4 days now. Tomorrow there's an extreme fire danger warning. Then it will cool off to the mid-90s.

OTOH our tortoise wants to go into hibernation. It isn't temperatures doing it, it is the shortness of the days.

How well I know! I lived in Utah for ten years, skied and snow camped in the Rocky Mountains, and recall being in -20 F weather skiing in Idaho when it hurt to breathe. I'm a child of the tropics and after ten years of bundling up and wearing snow boots, I moved back to the South where the daffodils bloom in February and I can wear shorts, T-shirts and flipflops nine months of the year. I no longer even own proper clothing for that kind of cold. But I still have two pairs of cross country skis in the garage for those rare occasions when we get sufficient snow to ski on our farm, and I love to see your snow photos. Do you ever drive to Lake Louise to take photos? I bet it's gorgeous now.

The nightmare hasnt quite started where I'm at.

But it is approaching. As if I needed MORE reason to stay in the basement all the time.

When I leave town these days I'm more of a prairie trawler, as weird as that seems I prefer to explore the flat prairies, driving back roads and gravel roads, the big sky...

I totally understand that and it would be my preference, too. I was thinking you might find some urban scenes among the rich and famous who winter vacation at Lake Louise.

It never fails. We have nice, mild weather all month long in October with maybe just more rain than usual, but by by Halloween it's freezing, raining or even snowing,

which is hard if you're trick-or treating without a car, and your mom makes you wear a jacket which looks stupid with your costume. It's what inspired me to make this cartoon:

@GrownupGirl Very nice! We already had our first cold week (as noted) now into a warm stretch just in time for Halloween night, for those who do go trick-or-treating during Covid...

Send some of that cold our way. We still have days in the upper 80s. Hasn't rained here yet. There are fires still burning.

Dry as a bone here now, 24 Celcius yesterday, 18 today, there is still classic car spotting to be had this late in the year... But snow coming in by Friday...
