Food affinity...

eon

Jimmy The Neurotypical
I tend to systematize the food i want. It's interest-like yet I don't follow any regimens of only eating one particular thing. Just that I eat a particular thing a lot, until something else sort of takes over. for me, the last thing was smart dogs on dave's killer bread w kewpie mayo and mustard. now it's yakisoba i make w ramen, bull dog japanese worcestershire, and kewpie mayo, veggies.... it's basically the thing i prefer to make as often as possible.... while i still may have a few other things it's infrequent compared to the main thing.

Well eon, you're not alone...

I keep track of what I really love to eat at all times.

Living in Singapore, a melting pot of the East and the West, I can't help but to appreciate the different varieties of food that I had - and hadn't enjoyed.

I am very lucky to have tasted different kinds of cuisine. Just in my city alone, I can enjoy Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Peranakan (fushion Chinese-Malay cuisine dating 300 years back) cuisines. But how I tried them? I only eat Japanese food for 2 whole weeks or more, and the same can be said for me, having only Korean or Chinese food...

Now, I am hooked on bubble tea. It's a sort of drink originated from Taiwan (don't know whether it's a country or some part of China). Anyway, I tried the so-called 'best' bubble tea in town, and all its varieties. Other than the distinctive tea taste, the natural fragrance of the tea, and the creaminess of the milk the shop used - all perfect in the Milk Green Tea - actually it has something I am still searching - the perfect 'Pearl'.

Now if some shop offers an even better taste, I'd gladly take it - whether in its competitors or some other shops.

As what I mentioned above, I had cravings for certain sorts of food. Besides bubble tea, I also like Japanese food. I am fortunate to have tried ramen and sushi at home. My family often goes to the 'suburbs' to look for similar sorts of Japanese food - but nothing beats the one we all make at home. I wasn't able to find a sort of Japanese curry rice I liked, other than the one I had in my school's canteen. The canteen also makes donburis (rice set meals), especially chicken katsu (fried chicken) set - though I go to other Japanese-style food outlets for rice set meals with octopus meat, cuttlefish and salmon - and also chawanmushi (Japanese egg custard).

But some things, we are never able to perfect. One could be European/Hispanic/African/American/Arabian cuisine - somehow they are made of a certain way that me and my family hasn't been able to replicate. So well...

I am also interested in going around town to look for the perfect mooncake, ba-zang (meat dumplings) and roast chicken.

I actually have a similar thing myself with bagels and crumpets; having eaten bagels over the past few weeks I'm kind of bored of them for now and want crumpets instead. In another few weeks I dare say I'll very likely go back to bagels. Aside from that I've also had lots of other food phases, the most recent being tomato soup.

Now my craving for bubble tea brought me to new heights. I actually bought bubble tea from another bubble tea shop today.

Guess what - I didn't queue for a very long time, the bubble tea is not foamy, and the pearls are nothing special except small - though there are lots of pearls.

You've got to try an avocado bubble tea smoothie with jellies instead of pearls.... It's a Thai style bubble tea variant and it's ridiculous good.

My overall process of eating is very separated. I just dont feel like eating anything except if it's the thing in my food routine interest at that moment... I mean sometimes I can still go for something from past interest but more often I just go long times without eating, just drink a lot of water. Eating less calories is also supposed to extend life expectancy just due to cells regenerating less often (of which there is a limit before the cells run out and start autolyzing instead of regenerating again)

Yeah, I usually don't like tea when I get it, but there are a few varieties I like, usually the really thick ones. Living in the United States, I drink a lot of Soda, or "Pop" as we call it in Minnesota where I live. As for actual food, I like a wide variety of things. Italian food is great [there's a good Italian Restaurant called Buca in the downtown area of Minneapolis, where I live]. I also like most any kind of Asian food.

I especially like Indian Food, as I find anything with curry in it delicious [I swear to God man, I would put curry on Ice Cream if you dared me to]. Still, I really like barbecue food, especially steaks and ribs. Then, finally, I also like Latin food, like Tacos, Burritos, Enchiladas, and Tamales. So, yeah, I like a lot of stuff. Stuff I don't like though, is things like corn [I won't eat popcorn or most other things made from corn, although I do like tortillas and tortilla chips]. I also don't like peas, and I really do not like Beans. I will not eat anything with beans in it [that means, no Chile, no red beans and rice, and nothing made from Soy, especially Tofu].

I have a thing for ground beef and meatballs right now. I like to see how many things that I can eat ground beef and meatballs with. I'm thinking of doing a ground beef stir fry with onions and orange sweet peppers, tomorrow evening. I've had Kraft Dinner and Meatballs a few times. There are days that I want to eat my protein all at once in the morning and go vegetarian for the rest of the day. I'll mix ground beef in with my eggs and have toast with it, on a work day on that rare occasion. That helps me to think twice about ordering something at McDonald's after my morning shift.

Yes, I'm the same. i develop a fondness for a particular food, or drink and take it constantly until I get bored. examples include instant noodles, pasta sauces, chicken Korma, tea, coffee.

It's the same for me. I'm very difficult/picky when it comes to food and especially with brands. I usually eat the same couple of things over and over until I get fed up of them and want something else.
