Football Hooliganism

Topic.

I've seen reports on Facebook of clashes between rival "fans" (and I use the term very loosely) at this weekend's International Football (Soccer) games in Russia and France.

IMO they should ban these people from every Football game on the Planet for life, lock them up and chuck the key in the deepest River possible, these people are NOT Football fans, they are mindless thugs who can't handle their drink and start causing bother after drinking.

Anyone agree?

Everytime it's the same thing. England fans, unsurprisingly were right in the middle of the action, once again giving our country a bad reputation. I mean the Euros have been going a few days and already we've had fans fighting each other and the police, a few England fans have been taken to hospital and at least one Irish person has died after being taken to hospital because of the violence and riots. The "good" news is that FIFA have announced that any Russian fans that show a repeat of recent behaviour will be result in the team being kicked out of the competition.

That is not good enough, when people are not only hurting each other but fans are being murdered (let's face it, it is murder) then they should be looking at prison time. I don't know if Russian players were involved but if not then why punish the people who are just playing the game while letting the chaotic fans go without punishment?

I don't understand why these people do it, it has to be more than alcohol, right? I know this is a competition and people want to support the team representing their country but at the end of the day it's just a game. You've paid the money to get to France and the cost of the tickets why not just relax and enjoy it. If your team loses they lose. These people need to grow up.

This generation doesn't remember Heysel or Hillsborough, so there's nothing remotely tangible to think about in history.

Come to Canada. You'll never have to worry about football riots ever again. :mapleleaf::p

I remember Hillsborough, I was just turned 13 at the time, and on the day I was on the Bus to Town with my Nan, and saw all the Emergency vehicles screaming towards Hillsborough. wondered what was going on then it was on BBC Look Leeds at Tea time that the disaster had struck.

I remember Hillsborough as well, just awful, the teacher talked about it in school the next day but at the time it was thought that the Liverpool fans had caused it, it is only recently that the whole story has come out.

I find it all terribly odd. As if sports were intended as "a continuation of state policy". By other means.

But it happens on our side of the pond too. Very tragic at times.

For anyone who doesn't want anything to do with with football hooligans, if they are lucky enough to live outside a country were they are asked what team do you support from childhood onwards and they can wear any clothing they like, and if it happens to be a certain colour that's okay. Or to play a song that unwittingly is a song associated with a football club. If they can live without fear or intimidation, they are very lucky.
