I think the majority of us have seen or heard of these.
Found Footage movies are films that are either fully or mostly presented as if they were film or video recordings that have just been found.
The footage itself is often first-person perspective (as if a person is recording on a camcorder, mobile phone or other device) but can also incorporate other people's camera footage and even CCTV.
The films aren't popular with everyone, however, as some people aren't comfortable watching a shaky camera for an hour or more. Some people even experience motion sickness, headaches and vomiting as a result of trying to sit through this type of movie.
This type of filming is mainly used in horror movies, although it has its uses in other genres such as Sci-Fi, Drama and even Comedy. The best examples from the horror franchise include The Blair Witch Project and the Paranormal Activity movie series.
Other examples include the following: Chronicle, Earth to Echo, Project X, REC, Project Almanac, Area 51, Europa Report, Cloverfield, Apollo 18, Diary of the Dead, Creep, Devil's Due and more.
Some TV shows have also used this method of filming style - such as the TV show Lost Tapes. Even an episode of Godzilla the Animated Series used this style for the majority of the episode S.C.A.L.E (which is presented like a documentary):
Do you have any favorites, and do you have any ideas for future 'Found Footage' movies?
