Frustrated

Misty Avich

Hellooooooooooo!!!
V.I.P Member
I have a new favourite author, Cathy Glass. I love listening to her audiobooks.
But there's one thing that's bugging me. In the first book her first born was born in October. Then in the rest of the books the same first born has his birthday in March.

I'm not usually this picky but when it comes to dates and birthdays this lack of logic cannot work. I've tried Googling it to see if there's an explanation but it doesn't say anywhere about it. Maybe I'm the only one who's spotted it? Why would such a good author of such good books make such a careless mistake? Her books are non-fiction as well. So it doesn't make sense.

*Crying* lol

Looks like she missed one in the editing phase.

In some of my scribblings I have accidentally created plot holes and continuity errors. it is so easy to do, this is why I have been through the big work over a hundred times honing it and hunting down these errors.

Whenever I write stories the first thing I plan out is the continuity of the months, years and aging of the characters (particularly child characters). It has to be 100% perfect in that respect.
It's just frustrating because Cathy Glass's family aren't fictional and so her first born was either born in October or he wasn't. Unless she wanted to change the months of her children's birthdays after writing the first book.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Glass’ whole thing that she is writing about foster children and she blurs the details to protect their privacy?

Maybe some of the confusion of birthdates makes sense if the stories are
viewed in order?
Yes but whichever order you read the stories it still doesn't change the continuity of birthdays. Her first born, Adrian (not a foster child) was born in October, according to the first book. Then in the rest of the books the same child's birthday is in March.

The first thing I thought of with this thread as far as I know remains a constant for any authored works formally published. That any perceived error is the result of the publisher- not the author, when such works actually reach the public.

However before citing this as an obvious error in continuity, you might consider part of the legal responsibilities of the publisher as opposed to an author. That for all we know, this may have been changed to satisfy a legal consideration perhaps most relative to one's privacy. Or perhaps some other reason, that we the public are not privy to.

That said, it would probably annoy me as well. But I can how published works can be altered from one edition to another, based largely on a multitude of legal considerations apart from simple errors. Something I would run into on occasion in examining considerations of advertising, personal and professional liability of various commercial entities as an insurance underwriter.

Concerns impacting publishers in particular, as opposed to individual authors unless they attempt to publish their works entirely on their own. Even then, with legal counsel there may be reasons in this case as well for such breaks in continuity.

You could request a fact sheet.
You could express your concern to the publishers.
Or to her, 'semi-directly.'

Oh, while we're here, do you know if there's a way I can get the author Bel Mooney to put the 3 missing Kitty audiobooks on audible? I have all the others on there except 3, which don't seem to be available anywhere.

Yes I know they're children's stories but they're just good to listen to while taking a nap. Please don't judge lol.

I don't read, just listen to audiobooks. I listen to grown-up audiobooks while colouring or doing other activities, and the children's audiobooks are there for when I take a nap. It's just a thing I do lol.

Oh and thanks. It's annoying when you have all the audiobooks of a series or set except just a few.
