Furious mum blasts Specsavers after ‘optician calls her autistic five-year-old son a spaz’

A FURIOUS mum has hit out at her local Specsavers after claiming an optician called her autistic five year-old son a “spaz”.

Sarah Ford, 24, claims she was left horrified when she attempted to persuade the shop worker to let her son Noah have two sets of the same glasses.

She was told she had to chose two different pairs to be in line with the shop’s buy-one-get-one-free offer – but Noah was adamant he just wanted the one style.

When prison officer Sarah tried to explain her son’s condition and asked the optician if he was familiar with dealing with autistic children, she claimed she was told: “Yes I’ve convinced a few spaz’s in my life”.

The mum-of-three blasted the firm in a Facebook post which has since been shared more than 800 times.

Sarah Ford described the incident on Facebook

Sarah, of Burnley, Lancs , fumed: “So my parents always brought me up with if u have nothing nice to say its better to not say at all. Well Specsavers you clearly have an employee that wasn’t brought up like that!!

“Today I took my son to an appointment, my 5yr old little innocent child, my 5yr old who has additional needs.

“On entering Specsavers I had the testing guy he was actually amazing, he went out of his way to make my child feel comfortable, then u have the dispensing optician who well is probably the most disgusting human being i have ever come across.

“So my son picked out 2 pairs of glasses that the lady chose with him, she then sent us to the dispensing guy, who then said sorry but u cant have the same pair. u try telling this to a child on the autistic spectrum, so i compromised maybe we can just have one pair not the two pairs .. sorry u cant have just one pair..

“Ok so I ’m sorry but you’ve seen he just wants that pair there is no other suitable, as we don’t like football ones so either just ONE pair or i’ll happily go elsewhere.

“This next part is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever heard… me to the guy ‘have you dealt with a child on the spectrum?? He won’t change his mind’.
“The guy to me.. ‘yes I’ve convinced a few spaz’s in my life!!!!”

The incident on Monday afternoon prompted Sarah to write the scathing review which attracted support.

Jodie Marie Conroy Utterly commented: “appalling, what a disgusting person!!!”

And Sue Watson added: “Absolutely disgusting and unbelievable. Renders me speechless. All of it!!!!! Use a small independent store.”

Last night Lancashire Police confirmed they had received a complaint and were investigating.

A Specsavers spokesman said: “Specsavers takes a complaint of this nature very seriously and we are investigating this as a matter of priority. The individual categorically denies making the alleged remark.”
