A Gateshead restaurant which is staffed entirely by young people with autism and learning difficulties has surprised its workers with contracts of employment.
Davey Duke's became the first diner as part of a £2m project helping young people with autism across the UK.
But this week the staff were given an extra surprise as they were told they would be employed full-time by the diner.

Staff who are trained at the diner have found it difficult to secure full-time employment at previous jobs due to the pressure and stress.
Davey Duke's has given its autistic staff specialist training and offered the workers contracts of employment during their final interviews.
This has given the staff new confidence which they had lacked previously.
I felt so excited, you can't imagine that you can actually get that paid employment, it's not just helped my life in here but also in my personal life.
