Got a new set of dishes - very autist

See, I know talking about a new set of dishes seems to have nothing to do with autism, but it very much does because the reason I bought them. I don't own a dishwasher so I wash by hand and I actually kind of enjoy washing dishes, as long as there's not too many of them. (Like my kids know I enjoy washing dishes and when they know I am coming might save them for me and they've piled up over the last few days. lol)

Anyhow...……...My dishes are just plain, flat dishes and can be a bit boring to wash. Pictures on them are cute. But I seen this set on Amazon that are pretty and (now get this) they're textured. Stoneware so it's the soft glass feel, but along the outter edge it's textured. A small dish is still sitting on my desk next to me from breakfast and I've found myself rubbing my hand over the textured part. And I very much am enjoying washing these dishes.

Another funny thing about the dishes - I was telling my sister about them after I ordered them. As I was describing them she told me to send her a picture and at the same time she was sending a picture of some dishes she had just ordered. Same dishes, different color. We often don't mean to but buy the same tops or jeans so I guess we have very similar taste. lol

So you ever bought anything with autistic motives?

Bought, not really, maybe clothes only - there are materials I despise and can't ever buy - but I often go around and search for some nicely textured rocks or bark. Although I had to stop, since I ran out of space lol.

Wait, no. I realise that I bought certain types of gravel (and moss but that I just grabbed from trees and dried) for some of my models because of how it felt in my hands. Does it count? ;)

If I did I wouldn't have known that it was related to autism in the past. My dishes are a mix of various sets that I like and buy at thrift stores. Mostly plain, dark and light colours. Have four sets of bowls though, all japanese style with the lip on the bottom so you can use them for tea or soup without burning your fingers and the saucers fit on the top and bottom! Several plates with trees on them, and big spagetti style bowls that I use instead of plates.

Funny that you don't like dishwashers, I don't have one either, I got rid of the one that belonged to Gram when I moved in. Hate the smell of them when you open them up, of old food and crusty powdered detergent. The smell makes me nauseous. Maybe having worked in kitchens for part of my life, did that. Wash everything by hand, in my old porcelain sink.

Similar thing with my older sister, when I did have contact with her she usually wanted something I owned like my jean jacket or boots or a scarf and it seems we use the same shampoo and conditioner. Weird.

Yes - that's my point - buying something because you know or know you're gonna like the feel of it. Like the rocks. :)

I don't know if this counts or not, but I've bought squidgy fidget toys because I know I'm going to like the feel of them. I seek out soft textures in clothes - but I think most people do this and it's not particularly unusual.

Fossils. They're great to handle and look at, I have quite a lot. I also like pebbles, just any really that catch my eye on the beach, and I like to arrange them. And rearrange. And then again... So satisfying to look at, to touch and hold... I collect shells too, and I put shells and pebbles in my garden. Certain pebbles from beaches I knew as a child are pleasantly familiar.

The mugs I buy will determine how much I enjoy the drink. I'm a sucker for decorative mugs. It also impacts the proportion of coffee I make, and there's a huge satisfaction with getting it right every time :D

I love dishware and l by the kind that looks extremely old , casual chic look. Silverware l like less ornate.

Did someone mention rocks? I have a decent collection and just ordered lapidary (Stone & gem cutting, shaping, engraving and polishing) equipment and 50 carats of Ethiopian opal. Once everything gets here (By May 15th) I will post photos in my geology folder of raw to finished product.
After it gets here I will be spending much less time on electronic devices but will drop in now and then to annoy y'all. :D
