Great Mexican Cocina

I am in NYC with my spouse for a little culture. Today we had dinner at Toloache. We ate there 8 years ago and I wanted to return. I am not disappointed. We shared the Hamachi Ceviche and I had the Drunken Enchiladas (Enchiladas Borrachas) in a type of Salsa Verde. Tomatillos but very chili forward. I think the chef seeded the Chili's but did not devein them so it had medium heat. Very Nice! Susan had Lechon with roasted turnip and cabbage in a Hazelnut Pineapple Mole.

Should you be in NYC, looking for an excellent meal I can highly recommend Toloache. Here's me enjoying it.

Thanks for the spelling help. Unfortunately where I live the Mexican food is more Tex-Mex and not very good. I can cook better than those restaurants.

Tomorrow, the American Museum of Natural History and then the musical, Merrily We Roll Along, with Daniel Radcliff.

I've taken several cooking classes in Mexico, too, and love the cuisine and culture. I cook a lot of Mexican food at home, quite expertly if I may say so myself. I recommend Pati Jinich's cookbooks and recipes. She has had a cooking show on PBS for years that I try to never miss. We're fortunate to have a good Mexican grocery store where I can buy a lot of Mexican ingredients unavailable at regular American grocery stores that are needed to make authentic Mexican and Central American food. We also have a great Mexican panaderia where I frequently buy baked goods. Many people don't realize that Mexicans are excellent bakers. It's not just tortillas!

Yum!

Will you adopt me Mary? Your cooking sounds fantastic.

So right! The baked goods are excellent. In La Paz, Baja Sur, I would have breakfast at Maria California. The pastries are excellent, but I went for their Chilaquiles which were superb. I have been trying to convince friends that they would enjoy a trip to Mexico, but alas, they remain unconvinced.

People are afraid of crime in Mexico. Irrationally so, most of the time, except for the border states. My perspective comes from nearly 50 years of traveling in Mexico and the fact that I live near the murder capital of the USA - Jackson, MS. Sheesh, you gotta use common sense wherever you are!

News article in the NYT times today that the Mexican cartels have ordered the minions to stop making fentanyl for US customers. Our law enforcement is taking a toll on the fentanyl traffickers and the cartels are paying attention.
