Hi everyone!

Due to a recent incident in my relationship with a NT woman I have read three books and just about everything I could find on the internet (at least the well-written articles). One thing that struck me was the explanation of the Cassandra Phenomenon. My girlfriend seems to be suffering from this and at this moment I fear that my relationship may be in trouble. She is the one that bought the books but has not read them yet, but at least she has a clue as to what she is dealing with. Fortunately I'm one of the AS people who also is very intelligent (this seems to be a common trait) and over the past few decades (I'm 64) I have learned a lot of "scripting" (which I only yesterday found out that it had a name) which enables me to perform fairly satisfactorily in social and work environments. Before that I barely spoke to anyone and avoided most social situations. Now nobody can get a word in edgewise ;) It is somewhat mind-boggling once I realized just how many scripts it takes for us to socialize in a "normal" manner and the amount of effort and brain power required to process all of the information and respond appropriately in a timely manner!

I am now aware of at least some of the things I am doing which are upsetting/torturing her and hope it is not too late. If anyone can suggest where I could find some in-depth information about Cassandra I would really appreciate it.

Just to double-check I took another Asperger's Quiz today and scored 40, with anything above 34 being "Autism Likely." I'm still a bit confused over the terms "Asperger's" and "ASD" and heard somewhere recently that "Asperger's" has become archaic however I see it everywhere.

Cassandra was a prominent figure in Greek mythology. She was famous for her prophesies that nobody believed (she said to the rulers of Troy, "Burn that Trojan Horse; I've got a bad feeling about it!"). She died, and the Greek gods said that she had been a decent woman while she lived, and therefore allowed her to live in the heavenly Elysian Fields for the afterlife.

Welcome to the group!

Welcome :)

I believe there have been threads about the supposed 'syndrome' you mention, although they were more about how the woman who came up with it (and the majority of people who respond to it online) are women who are bitter about their previous/current relationships with men on the spectrum. The majority of information I have seen on it is wholly about demonising men with ASD and warning NT women never to get into a relationship with them.

That's the sort of thing I've come across so far. What I'm hoping to find is a way for her to deal with me and not take it personally. I want her to be happy so I'm trying to understand the exact cause so I can try to stop doing whatever it is I am doing.

Hi, Aspergers is a term no longer used in America, I think they now use higher functioning autism, but everywhere else still uses it. I know my country does, long live Australia!

Hello & welcome.
I'm still a bit confused over the terms "Asperger's" and "ASD" and heard somewhere recently that "Asperger's" has become archaic however I see it everywhere.
ASD [Autism Spectrum Disorder] is the whole range of autistic presentations. (Most of us would prefer the term Syndrome to Disorder, but nobody wants to use the alternative acronym. )

In one theory (which I subscribe to), Aspergers has been thought of as the base/hereditary/neuro-diverse form of autism. The modern iteration of lower-functioning forms of autism [LFA, etc.] is thought to be from complications on top of Aspergers.

Looking back in history, we can spot many likely candidates for Aspergers, but the LFA boom abruptly started with the Millennials (and that is what most NTs mean when they speak of autism). Further studies have shown a strong correlation between these LFA children and parents with Aspie-like qualities (though not LFA). That is why some have subscribed to the "injured Aspie" theory.
