Welcome. Aspies (and gifteds, too) experience what is called asynchronous development. That means that we grow faster in some areas than we do in others. Parts of our thinking may reach adulthood earlier than NTs while other parts may never mature past childhood. Barring other mental issues, NTs typically outgrow their childishness and they hold that to be the norm.
Since we never completely lost all of our childishness, we have had to learn how to incorporate it into our lifestyle while still maintaining adulthood responsibilities. We have made him or her part of our process; a team effort.
3Legged Race
Have you ever seen a three-legged race...?
My adult side might be tracking objectives that have to be met, but when I encounter a "dilemma," I usually pass that "puzzle" to my child side to be solved. (While a dilemma might be frustrating,
he really likes puzzles...!
) In trade, my adult side will carve out "play" time for my child side. Play promotes pleasure-learning which is both relaxing and sharpens problem-solving skills, making them available for use on still later real-world problems.
NTs no longer seek their child-side consultant, considering them to be regressive. (And they think that
we are regressing when they see that we still embrace ours.) Of course, meltdowns can be a down side to this arrangement, but (as often as possible) I repackage overwhelming sources of frustration as another "puzzle" to be solved.
