Had my friend dementia?

recently my friend only 15 who has aspergers has been having short memory, forgetting items, what people said , struggling and forgetting with speech , confused always , can’t follow storylines, and lots of sudden mood changes he has alot of dementia signs
He has spoken with his doctor who said it’s aspergers but he still feels it’s dementia what is it what will we do the doctor can’t help and his mother only believe doctors
 
Reaching out on a limb, but if he's on an even moderate dose of benzodiazapines such as Xanax, that can have a side effect that mimics dementia in people of any age.

It's why I stopped taking Xanax. I was sick of forgetting where I parked, being unable to read my own watch, and having no idea what day it was.
 
This could be complicated but if your friend was diagnosed with Asperger's was it by a physician with expertise in that area? If not, maybe he needs an evaluation with someone with expertise.
 
Why don't you encourage him to join this forum. Members here might be more able to help him if they know him directly. This is a very accepting, helpful and supportive place and members will try to help if asked to.
 
Yep, if he has problems there are plenty of people who can provide advice or workarounds. It's difficult to comment without a specific example, so instead let me give you an example of a common memory problem that I have. I will often look at my hand, and be surprised by what I find in it. I will have NO MEMORY whatsoever of picking something up, and the feeling of the thing in my hand didn't register. It's great when it's money! "Oh look" I think, "free magic money". :)
 
Is it the professional who diagnosed him, or another doctor, who said those symptoms are because of Asperger's? Either way, it's wrong. Problems that come up suddenly have to have another cause. Are you sure he hasn't recently started taking a prescribed medication? And no, it's pretty unlikely he's suffering from dementia.
