Half of all Children Will Have Autism by 2025 (?)

Dr. Stephanie Seneff, research scientist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), made a dire prediction earlier this month during an event sponsored by the Groton Wellness organization. She said,

At today’s rate, by 2025, one in two children will be autistic.

Seneff was leading a presentation that showed a strong correlation between the increased use of Roundup starting in the early 1990’s and the rising number of autism diagnoses over the past three decades. In 1975, 1 in 5,000 children were diagnosed with autism. The current rate is 1 in 68, and it shows no sign of slowing down.

Roundup is a weed killer produced by Monsanto that contains glyphosate, a substance that has been shown to cause toxic side effects similar to those found in autism. Monsanto has also been producing genetically modified crops (GMOs) that are designed to withstand the effects of Roundup weed killer. The use of GMOs has come under fire in the United States during recent years.

Dr. Seneff is a veteran researcher who has published several papers on the effects of nutritional deficiencies and environmental toxins. During her presentation, she explained how glyphosate kills beneficial gut bacteria and causes deficiencies in key minerals, including cobalt, iron, and manganese. Studies have shown that children with autism often have biomarkers indicative of excessive glyphosate, including zinc and iron deficiency, low serum sulfate, seizures, and mitochondrial disorder. Similar correlations between autism and glyphosate are also found in deaths caused by senility.

She raised other frightening statistics, including studies that have shown that Americans have ten times the glyphosate accumulation as Europeans, and that glyphosate has been discovered in excessively high quantities in the breast milk of American mothers, as much as 760 to 1,600 the allowable limits in European drinking water.

While it may be tempting to dismiss these findings as the extreme work of one researcher, it is important to note that Dr. Seneff is a respected scientist with an impressive background in research on nutritional deficiencies and the impact on environmental toxins. She has published 10 articles in various scientific journals, seven as head author, and she worked as a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

And while correlation does not necessarily indicate causation, the extremely high Pearson Correlation Coefficient score of 0.99 is difficult to ignore. This, combined with the extreme prevalence of foods containing GMOs that were likely treated with Roundup in the United States is enough to give anyone pause. Glyphosate can be found in soft drinks and candies sweetened by corn syrup, chips and cereals containing soy, and cattle and chicken fed soy. Basically, in the United States, it’s in just about any food that isn’t organic.

Monsanto maintains that glyphosate and GMOs are safe, listing a series of studies on their website at Monsanto |

If we become that many, society has to adjust itself to accomodate us. We will have to adjust it ourselves, being the majority, or a majority.

Senoff is a computer scientist who works on artificial intelligence.
I would question her research as others have.
Samsel who co-wrote this is an independent scientist who attack industrial toxins freelance...he has an agenda.

I would take this with a grain of salt

I'm rather sceptical about this. Whilst I acknowledge that it is possible that environmental toxins may be a potential contributing factor towards the development of autism, and the increase of such toxins in the environment may be contributing to increasing numbers of autistic children, it is far more likely that the rapidly increasing number of diagnoses are simply due to increasing awareness in the general public and knowledge on the part of psychologists and other such professionals. I highly doubt that the current trend will continue until 1 in 2 children are autistic.

If two percent of kids have autism now, and sixty percent of those kids will be adults by 2025, and an average of fifty percent of all children born starting next year are born with autism, then in 2025 that makes 50,8% of all kids, which is indeed over fifty percent. I still haven't clicked the link, I'm just having fun.

The grain of salt should probably be a few bucket loads, enough to make a small lake habitable for cod fish. Like calling a spade a teaspoon. ;)

I'm always a bit suspicious of that old dynamic of scientists in the public eye for one achievement, but claiming expertise beyond it. Lest we recall Dr. William Shockley. Co-inventor of the transistor who chose to foolishly dabble in eugenics that ultimately ruined his professional reputation.

Given current rates of 1/68, that's a 3,400% increase over 11 years.

Diagnostic rates of autism may have dramatically increased over recent years, even more than doubling over the course of a decade according to some quick research of my own, but that still falls drastically short of the 3,400% necessary for this prediction to come true. Especially when you consider a considerable amount of autism increase has occurred due to widening the diagnostic criteria, which won't be getting any wider in the near future.

I think those few bucket loads of salt should probably be an olympic sized swimming pool of salt.

Been honest, I partly think the article is two things:

1. An attack on Monsanto - who have been in the news for negative reasons including their pesticides and weed killers (which are said to be responsible for the global bee die-off) and their Genetically-Modified Organisms (GMO's) which are said to be extremely harmful to your health.
An interesting twist in this is despite the negative news, the US Government has actually passed the "Monsanto Protection Act" - which has actually made it illegal to ban Monsanto from selling seeds that are known to be harmful to people, as well as several other, shall we say 'interesting,' provisions solely for the benefit of Monsanto.

2. It seems to be a fear-based article aimed at parents (especially since it started with the word Warning on the source article). As such, I think some will interpret it as a way of trying to get people to donate money towards Autism Speaks and other "charities/organisations" that claim to be able to 'fix' Autistic people.

I'm regretting putting this article up, so my apologies to you all.

It is my honest belief that autism is caused by a body that was already predisposed genetically to have it...I think chemical approach is backwards thinking. Her markers used to identify her research have come into question that may not have any bearing on the end result. My research has shown that she has identified an abundance of her targeted chemical found in the cells of autistic children...how does she know that autistic bodies do not process these chemical the same way as a NT body...
How do we know she wasn't paid to write her papers the way another wanted her too.

Have no regrets AGXStarseed...I love to see others thoughts on this and I am sure others will too ;)

No worries, Starseed. It's been fun. ;)

I think it is due to high stress levels in early pregnancy, but this is perhaps mostly because it fits my own and at least one friend's situation. I'll change my mind given credible evidence of some other cause.

This whole article reminds me of people who think Autism is caused by Fragile X Syndrome, because there is a very slight correlation. Insensitive as it might be, I find it perfectly hilarious.

I ran into the "A vaccination with a bad Chinese unapproved drug full of mercury that caused autism lawsuit "family. How did that drug slip past the US government's food and drug administration? The boy was born on the cusp of when the only mercury compound ever used as a preservative was removed from vaccines due to idiotic pressure about it...the compound had a minute amount of a mercury compound in it that did not interact the same was as thermometer mercury that got scattered all over the floor and dispersed itself like a shotgun...there was never any danger of becoming a mad hatter getting a shot...it wasn't quicksilver

Eh, I don't know if I put much stock into those statistics. Pesticides and genetically modified foods are a favorite thing to campaign about and lobbyists will use anything from consequence to correlation to promote their cause. Perhaps half the population will be autistic in a few decade,, but I believe it will be due to better understanding of autism and stuff (my very allistic family certainly has some very autistic traits, one reason why I slipped through for so long). Example, we know now that nearly everybody has staph, it's just what kind and what degree, but a few years ago it was the latest doomsday pandemic that was going to make our faces rot off if we looked at an infected person wrong.

It kinda is. If our numbers have been dramatically increasing rather than decreasing, Nature must have decided that there's some survival benefit to having high functioning autism (enhanced intelligence maybe, or the ability to see ******** for what it is). Who are we to argue with Nature?

What about the possibility of misdiagnosis ?

I'm certain that there's suppose to be skills of deduction required to properly diagnose someone, like different factors in symptoms and narrowing it all down and etc. How can we be certain that the therapist or psychologist didn't make a mistake or isn't a quack ?

This seems like a statistic pulled out of nowhere to scare people to me :/

The way evolution works is that the "superior" individuals reproduce more than the others, and have more offspring. Are Aspies/Autistic people reproducing more?

("superior" is in quotation marks because evolutionary survivability/reproducibility is not actually the same thing as intrinsically better).

The loss of our tail did not make us superior in any way,it was no longer needed and we evolved to what we are today.
Maybe we no longer need the old brain and it is getting tossed in the trash with our old useless tail.
My question would be are they getting better at spotting us now or are there actually more of us out there that slipped thru the cracks and entered the gene pool, therefore adding to our numbers...this would be based on my assumption that autism is passes thru the genes and not externally induced...

There is a rather significant correlation between autism and vaccinations, so given the fact so many things are vaccinated for now, it would make sense that autism rates are spiking. Unfortunately some forms of autism are terribly debilitating which makes me sad.
