Hardship, but not tragic

I am currently unemployed because the company I was working (which we will call Company A) for closed down. Around the same time I was dealing with that, I had changed from another company (which we will call Company B) just 3 months before that. Company B has some dehumanizing and potentially illegal practice(s) financially, and lucky for me I was able to resolve that issue in my favor.

On top of that, Company A had some financial issues which have been at least partially resolved now.

Now my family is pulling me back and forth between considering being an electrician, accountant, staying or leaving teaching, berating me here and there saying that my social skills are totally lacking and they are concerned about what I can do, telling me to hurry up and pick classes and then not to pick any classes, invest in a career counselor and then don't invest in it if you haven't already started, and this is all happening at the same time.

Oh and they wanted me to adopt a kid and find a girl too.

I am sad. Sometimes I just wish I had people to talk to even though I know people can't really do anything besides help me look for a full time job w/ benefits.

I know the feeling, ten different people pushing and pulling you in ten different directions each. Sounds like my handlers at times. Do this, no don't, get here, no there, up, down, in, out, run, crawl, get up, lay down, get dressed, get naked.....UGH!

Times like that make me want to scream at the world to stop spinning and let me off this crazy ride. Good thing I'm used to wild rocket rides, so to speak. Pick ONE thing and get it in order, then move to the next. Ignore those contradicting what you know in your heart is right for you and, lean on those that will support you in each area. before you know it, you've got it all sorted and, the people pushing and pulling are standing back in awe of what you've accomplished.

You're on the right track, you've got to eat, keep a roof over your head and, food in your belly so, a job is a priority. You need an income for classes, to adopt, to pay a counselor too so, just deal with that first, then choose what you want to tackle next.

My original plan is to look for a full time job. That is above everything else. That is one thing that has always been in my plans from the beginning. It's been a month now, and my family is overly frustrated that I don't have anything. I've been doing what I'm supposed to do for unemployment (and more). Even looking up jobs on holidays.

I'm not looking to get married or have a kid on top of that or even adopt. Foreign exchange student and maybe a partner might be enticing if it comes naturally. I want to be able to just be me with no strings attached. I want a full time job, preferably teaching online or at a college. My credential aren't great for teaching at a college, and I have a looong way to go to make that happen at this point. That is what I would like to be able to do, or to be able to work at building curriculum full time or something involving geography or maps. I know I would be naturally inclined to be good at these sorts of things and enjoy doing them. I love teaching too, but I do not enjoy classroom management at all. It comes with teaching. Can't like everything you do all the time necessarily.

May I ask what your major is? Maybe there's a similar pattern in your field of study.

My majors are pure mathematics and Education. Almost all my prior work experience is with high school except for 3 months of work. I'm interested in schools where most of the kids are more motivated, and I think I could make the classroom management work now. I prefer cyber schools though, but there aren't a lot of opportunities. The school has to be in PA, NJ, or DE, or a private school, or that school has to be willing to pay me like a FT employee and help me get certification in said state. I am also interested in curriculum companies or odd jobs where I don't have to do any/much classroom management. I'd been getting several interviews during this tough time and dealing with odd complications simultaneously, but nothing has come to fruition (yet.)

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. The best I can offer is for you to consider your wants and needs. My family was disappointed that I walked away from an IT career. The stress of the job caused me to have meltdowns.

I know I love to drive so I got my class A CDL to try driving tractor trailers. I only liked driving tractor trailers on nice days. So after putting in a few months, I decided to do bus driving. On my second day into it, it's great.

The nice thing about CDL jobs is that there are TONS of them. They say that the mean time a qualified CDL holder is unemployed is about 4 hours. You think you might like it?

I don't think I could handle driving a big truck. I'd be afraid of getting into an accident. I can drive a regular sized car alright, but that's about it. Thank you anyway!

I had that same fear. Everyone in my class had it! You work closely with an experienced trainer and gradually build confidence. Before you even go out on the road you build skills in a yard so you learn the characteristics of a trailer.

Also, you don't have to drive a tractor trailer. You can drive minibuses, rock trucks, waste removal, straight trucks, etc. The possibilities and options are long. If you reconsider, let me know. Since I struggled, I picked up a wealth of knowledge. There is also no small satisfaction that when a large vehicle goes by you can say, "Yup, I can drive that."

A good story: On a day off, I came upon a scene where a motorcoach driver developed a brain aneurysm. I saw the bus pulled over and paramedics and police everywhere. Since the bus wasn't parked safely, I asked an officer if I could be of assistance. He asked, "Can you move the bus?" I responded that I had a CDL A and could safely move the bus but I did not have the passenger endorsement at the time. His words were, "Thank God! Please hop on board and get these folks to safety." So with a police escort, we went 10 miles down the road to a shopping mall. I got a commendation from the police and a 200 dollar gift thank you card from the out of state bus company.

I happen to be seeing a paid career counselor, and I think the results from that will help guide me to jobs most suitable for me. If truck driver ends up being one of them and I'm interested, I will let you know. Thank you so much!
