Headaches

Has anyone ever had a headache that lasted for a few days to a week? I find myself being prone to them usually if I over exert myself. I haven’t been sleeping the best either. Should I change my diet around and see if that helps?

What causes a headache in anyone is highly individualized. My wife,...nothing works,...as hers are triggered by barometric pressure swings and monthly hormonal changes. I feel sorry for her,...been to a neurologist, had MRI's, all the experimental drugs,...nothing.

For myself, it's anything that could cause vasodilation and inflammation within my brain. Too many carbohydrates,...proinflammatory and cause excess insulin release. Throw in too much caffeine,...energy drinks are a no-no. Not enough sleep.

To kick myself out of those multi-day headaches, those ones that come and go, come and go over several days,...I force myself to fast,...usually try for a 1 meal/day, or a 48hr fast,...drop out the insulin, no caffeine, take large doses of anti-oxidants (resveratrol, CoQ10, NAC, curcumin), the usual Tylenol and Ibuprofen, and naps. I've now learned to recognize the signs before a bad headache is about to occur and intervene beforehand.

What kind of headaches are you talking about here? Migraine? Dull ache? Throbbing? Where on your head does it hurt?

Also, what do you mean by overexerting yourself? Exercise? Long work hours?

Obviously, only a doctor is qualified to diagnose you and you probably need to see one if you are having chronic headaches. But more specific information is needed for helpful feedback regarding other's experiences similar to yours. Diet can impact headaches, but so can many other things.

Throbbing and dull. Option A and slightly option B for the other. It mostly hurts where my forehead is.

I get sinus headaches fairly often, these days. Allergies, mostly. I probably have mold in my air vents, which should be cleaned. Other than that, tension headaches, but nothing that is consistent for a week or more.

For me, I get forehead headaches from allergies, sinus infections, dehydration and even eyestrain. But, I have not had headaches from overexertion.

So, I looked up exertional headaches online. Recommendations include over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication like advil and applying a heating pad to your head to open up the blood vessels. It is also emphasized to drink plenty of fluids and warm up slowly before exercising.

I do believe a lot of health issues come from bad diets, but I would not feel good about suggesting that unless you went to a doctor and had other underlying health issues ruled out first.

Also, lack of sleep can cause headaches. I don't know what is causing that for you, but it needs to be figured out whether it is from poor sleep habits, stress, caffeine, bad dreams, etc. I sure hope you feel better soon!

See a doctor, seriously. I'm not saying that to scare you, it's not like "oh geez better see one so your foot doesnt fall off", no, what I mean is you might be surprised at finding things you can do that may have a real effect on it. Things that you havent tried that can put a stop to that pain (or at least lessen it). But it can be very hard to find what works without professional examination.

I've often had splitting headaches myself. Merely taking painkillers aint enough. So what was it? The cause was the same stupid nonsense that causes all of my back/neck/arm pain. There's these little muscles at the far back of the neck, and when they get aggravated, the resulting effect is travelling pain. A headache, even though it's technically coming from the neck.

Doctors and physical therapists, they gave me everything I needed to know to deal with it though. Now, it's very rare that I get those headaches, and when I do, I know exactly what I need to do about it.

Yes I have. When I got a cavity, I thought it would be a great idea to get laughing gas. I never did that again because I had a headache for five days. I would rather have needles all day than that ever again.

I agree with @1ofakind .

I struggled with chronic migraines for a long time, but I take medication for it now and rarely have them anymore.

I hope you feel better soon!
