My name is Paul and I am almost 50 years old, sigh. I came to this forum not for myself, but for my daughter Lotte who will turn 16 in 10 days as of today. She was diagnosed with ASS at a very young age, can't remember exactly when but she was having challenges in her life since going to school (4 in the Netherlands where we live). I guess her "spectrum-behaviour" was there even before that, but less apparent.
A few years into school she was diagnosed with "a mild form of ASS", which is such a large container that we didn't really pay a lot of attention to it. However with age her issues didn't go away but grew larger. So about a year ago she went into 2 separate therapies: one for her depression/autism and one for her eating disorder. I skip the 10 years in between where she had several therapies that all resulted in disappointments.
The good news is that due to the eating disorder therapy Lotte is now showing progress in what she is able to swallow. For example she doesn't eat any fruits or vegetables at all and/or anything she doesn't already know. (Her diet on a daily basis consists of 1100 calories and lacks all the required elements like vitamins, minerals, proteins, fat, iron, etc. )
And the autism therapist also made some progress. First she explained to me that Lotte doesn't have "a mild form of ASS", but is probably an Aspergirl. She gave me a few books to read and that has been eye-opening. After reading those books, talking to the therapist and obviously also talking to Lotte, Asperger seems much more likely than classical autism.
The reason I came to this forum is that I still have some questions or rather I am in need of advice on stuff that I couldn't find in the books. I hope to find them here.
