Hey Everyone,
I've been part of AS Central for a few months now but have not had a chance to post much yet. So here goes. I always knew something was different with me since I was very little but I never knew exactly what it was. I learned about aspergers and autism in college and suspected I may have a mild case but was 100% sure. It became very apparant once I graduated college and got a job in the real world that I definitely have either aspergers or high functioning autism. I got through college by running cross country and track which provided me with a group of people that I saw every day who had a similar interest. I made several good friends through this and looking back I had a pretty good experience considering being as aspie. The real world has not been quite as kind. Social skills are much more important in the real world. I received almost all A's in college and high school and but now it is difficult to apply to the real world. Work is much more boring than school. I feel like I was born on the wrong planet most days.
Autism definitely is genetic. My dad has it for sure and my mom has social anxiety and may have it as autism well. My 3 siblings also have slight symptoms but I think I was blessed with the most symptoms of all my siblings.
My goal is to learn how to manage this condition from others on this forum. We are here for a reason, but we are just outnumbered.
