All,

I'm the proud father of four kids (3 boys and a girl). My oldest son was diagnosed with Aspergers a few years ago (he's 11 now) and I need to get pointers to help him navigate the next several years. He functions very well in "activities" and classes but has real problems making friends and interacting with folks outside the family in one on one situations.

Cheers,
Rick

Hello and welcome. :)

Good on you for being proactive about this. If I'd had help from my parents when I was a kid, things would have been so much easier!

As for your son's problems making friends and interacting - I'd suggest maybe finding an after-school activity that focuses on something that interests him. I could never make friends when I was that age unless I could talk to other kids that had similar interests as me.

Hello, and welcome to AC! Im sure you will find some good help and support here if you look around and chat to people. I haven't any experience of how to deal with aspie kids myself, as I'm one of the may adults who fell through the net as its only just been formally turned into a diagnosis. It's great to see a parent looking out for their kids like you are doing!
