I found this site the other day and have decided to give it a try. I was officially diagnosed with level 1 autism in September after having a different assessment a year prior which said I was twice exceptional but not autistic. I let it go for awhile, but from everything I was reading about the diagnosis and assessment I did not think the first one was accurate. I feel a bit uneasy that I basically have 2 assessments to choose from... I could show one report to say I'm not and another to say I am, which just tells me diagnosis is not an exact science.
I have only told one friend and not my family because I'm afraid they will think I'm nuts to have done a second assessment (they knew the first results) and maybe be confused as to how there is the different conclusions.
As for who I am... I turned 50 this year and I live in the United States. I'm wild about cats and I read all the time from newspaper to fiction. I work part time and have children who are grown but not yet independent. I'm lucky to be married nearly 30 years to a great man.
I'm hoping to meet some other middle aged women who want to talk about their experiences.
