Hi just joined and thought i would say hello. I am a self diagnosed Aspie, struggling to get a professional diagnosis. So on here hoping i can make more sense of who i am.

Hope you are all well, and look forward to chatting, reading forums etc.

I live in Glasgow and their isn't anywhere I can get the diagnosis on the NHS for adults in this area and I can't afford to go private. Since I started finding out about Aspergers in Nov 10 I tried tried and tried to get a diagnosis to no avail. Doctors, counsellors etc could not be less interested, telling me I just need to get on with it, there's nothing I could do as an adult anyway. Their words. I have seen counsellors and asked them, but been told they are not qualified to diagnose, but they have no doubts I am an aspie.

Ello. Its nice to meet you. I hope you hope you enjoy it here. Good luck with getting diagnosed soon. But there are many here in varying stages of diagnosis. Welcome Welcome Welcome! :)

Can you try a neighboring area or city for a diagnosis? I find it odd that no one seems interested in giving you one.
 
Yes its shocking i am being ignored, but i cant try to be diagnosed elsewhere,its all about your postcode,therefore i cant goto say Edinburgh or Aberdeen. I would need to move to these areas,but with not guaranteed to be diagnosed there either.

I like Scotland, they're just 2 hours from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and Glasgow is 3 hours away. Though I live more than 20 hours or more away by flight and car, lol

There are a few self-diagnosed Aspies here on AC, from all over the world. I'm sure you may feel as if you're in nowhere because of your lack of diagnosis - hmm, that's why we're all here on AC to support each other, for who we are, in our fun and supportive way :D Have a great time in AC! :D
 
Welcome to AC nowhereman :D Have you tried contacting the national autistic society to see if there are any clinics accessible to you? I'm sure I read something about new guidelines regarding autism that they MUST provide an assessment to those that ask (although it might have just been regarding children), I'll see if I can find it, I'm sure it was linked on the NAS website.
