Hello from a new member

Hello all, my name is Nerdpride20950. I am a 43 year old man who was just diagnosed with "Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1" (what was formerly Asperger's). My psychologist recommended that I visit and/or join this site to get information on how I can better deal with my condition. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.

A little further information: My ASD is mild and I have only read a few articles on Asperger's. While I don't necessarily enjoy crowds and the like, I don't have trouble going to stores for groceries or going out into crowds on occasion. My biggest problem seems to be with one-on-one interactions. I've had problems in the past with either "smothering" people who reach out to be my friend or being standoffish. I can never seem to find a balance. This led to my being bullied through-out school. My older sister has helped me to work on this, but I have never seemed to make much improvement.

Sorry for the 'wall of text' nature of this post. Just figured I'd get some info on me out there.

Welcome to the forums, Nerd! Hope your stay here is beneficial and nice! I also seem to have the problem where I am either too clingy or smothery or standoffish. Sometimes I can find a balance but it is hard.

Did the psychologist mention AC,
specifically?

Hi Nerdpride, welcome!
I don't like crowds either, they can make me very agitated and uncomfortable. Like you, I can manage them very occasionally, and I take my daughter with me if I have to get groceries.
You are not alone in finding the right balance between smothering people or appearing distant and aloof. I can relate to that, I think a lot of us have difficulty with it.
