Hello everybody,

My name is Darby, I am a 37 year old American woman living with my family in Sweden. I am a professional artist and live in the forest in a cabin that was first built in the 1700's. I have three children two of which have autism. Through research and the help of my psychiatrist I realized I also am autistic. I am finishing the process of getting my official diagnose which I will receive on paper in January but the specialist who is giving me my diagnose stated to me already that I can safely say without a doubt that I have autism, he just is trying to figure out what category to place me in and can't do so until I finish the protocol for the diagnoses.

Now that I know this about myself I am slowly learning to be less hard on myself. I am trying to find people who understand me a little better and that could relate to me a bit more. Up until now I have had great difficulty trying to understand why I have always been different from the rest of the world.

I hope that I can make some new friends here and learn more about myself.

Welcome :)

It sounds as though you're on the road to self-discovery. Many of us have been (or currently are), where you are now; so I'm sure you'll find many like-minded individuals to connect with. Our members are quite supportive of one another, so I hope that you feel quite comfortable here.

I recommend taking a look at our resources section:
Autism & Asperger's Resources | AspiesCentral.com

And particularly like to recommend this book, to our female members:
Aspergirls: Empowering Females With Asperger Syndrome | AspiesCentral.com

Sounds like you're off to a great start. Welcome to AC!

Welcome, newly diagnosed myself at 39. I love your avatar and must say, living in a cabin in the forest sounds absolutely wonderful.

Thank you! My avatar is actually some of my own artwork so I am really glad you like it. :) Yes we are a simple quiet bunch so to live in the wilderness is really the best place for us.
