Phew! Was I glad to stumble across this forum......to read about misfits just like me, after years of isolation, gives me hope. I'm a 51 yr old woman living in Canada. Been trying to get a diagnosis but I live in aplace where basic healthcare is hard to get, nevermind anything specialist. For years I was'nt interested in labels....now I realize that I actually do suffer the stress of trying to appear normal. Earning an income is so hard. Still I have learnt that keeping positive is all I have and so I channel my obsessive nature into making music and that keeps me upbeat.

Hi Snowy, welcome to AC. Yes, it is stressful and exhausting trying to emulate Neurotypical behavior in attempts to keep life copacetic. But like yourself, I spent several decades not really understanding why. At least now I feel like I can logically pick my battles...and avoid others which serve no purpose. And to accept who I am...instead of constantly trying to mitigate my traits and behaviors in any and all circumstances.

It's empowering to suddenly know who we are...and also that we are not alone.

Where in Canada did you get your diagnosis? Here in the east they just dont assess adults.

Welcome Snowy, it is surprising how many of us have gone decades without Diagnoses. Im 48 and was only diagnosed last year.
