Hello I am new here

Hello. My name is Marie. I am new here. I have only just recently been diagnosed and so much is fitting into place. I am sad at the moment and so much time having gone by and feeling so misunderstood and relationships failing but in the end knowing will be better for me. I need to embrace. It works well for me at work as a psychologist. I do get peoples emotions mostly but struggle to express my own. I sometimes don't get peoples emotions in context and get confused, things being black or white.

Welcome, Marie!

It can be really sad, realising how much time we've "lost" and wishing we could have known earlier. That's a feeling many people here will be familiar with, myself included. Don't feel like you need to push yourself too hard to accept it because that acceptance will come in time and what you're feeling right now is totally fair. I'm glad you've got your diagnosis and you're on your way to better understanding already. It's something that I personally feel was very important and worthwhile for me and I'm much happier now, feeling like I truly know myself in all the ways I couldn't before. I'm sure you'll feel the same in time.

Good luck!

Welcome, Marie. I understand the regrets of not understanding sooner, being diagnosed at 60. But having regrets is a step up for me, previously being triggered to remember the isolation I felt acutely. Not knowing I was autistic had me facing the world by myself. I understand now and am happy that I was able to move on from being so self-centered that there was no room for anybody else. Just doing that changed my life for the better and it happened at a critical time in my life.

Hello and welcome, there are many wonderful people on this forum. I dont say much yet but when I have the people here have been very helpful and friendly. Its a very good group I think and I hope you stick around to find that out for yourself too. Welcome again.
