After a long couple of years of testing and seeing doctors we finally got a diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome. I long thought this might be the case since I had worked in the autism field for a few years. I am glad we finally have a diagnosis but i'm also worried about my 8 year old as she faces this battle ahead of her. Her mother and I will do all that we can but I know the hard road she has before her and it scares me. Also I am worried about her mother, she has handled the news well ,but has little patience. I hope this changes as she learns more about Aspergers.

Hi, and welcome. I hope it works out for yourself and your daughter. I'm an adult aspie who slipped through the net like so many of us. I hope kids nowadays get a better start in life with the right support educationally once the diagnosis is made. I don't think I'm alone in thinking how much difference knowing we had Aspergers would have made for us all growing up...

Your daughter has you, which is something you never had. She has a soft place to fall, and will always know there is somebody who understands her way of thinking and being.

The worst thing for a kid is impatience, and kids can smell that a mile away. Her mother has her work cut out for her. Good luck.

Hello to you. I'm glad that you got this diagnosis earlier than I did. It can help to know what difficulties you may face. It was very frustrating for my parents because they didn't know why I was having the problems I was. Hopefully, your daughter will not face as much difficulties because you now have some information to go on. Good luck.

Hi!! ! My daughter was diagnosed first, and the understanding opened everyone's eyes. Patience has gone a long way in healing as a family. We can now avoid all the confusion and embarrassment I caused my family as an undiagnosed Aspie. Your daughter is lucky to have you guys :)
