Hello, newbie here

doordoctor

Well-Known Member
Hello everyone, I am new here, my name is Jess, Female and from NJ (yes, where Sandy stuck) I am 28 years old and was diagnosed with asperger's at age 16 by a high school psychologist.

my interests are computers (windows) and fixing doors (or just giving advice on them, especially commercial doors/door closers) sadly, I cannot find a job too easily, if I worked I would LOVE to fix doors (door repairer or locksmith)

my nickname (doordoctor) is what people used to call me in high school and technical trade school i went to during my last 3 years of high school, since i used to fix their doors (often times the custodians would ask what to do with the problems) they started calling me doordoctor, years after, the general public WWW found out and most of the questions on doors were about the closer device that pulls it shut, I am also known as "Jess the door closer doctor"

nice to meet you all here, :D

Hi Doordoctor! You're the 1st person I ever met wit this interest. Doors fascinate me & I can look at them for hours but handling or fixing them is beyond me. We'd make a good team though: I could go in & break them then you could swoop in & FIX them.

How did your home fare during Sandy? I hope you weren't one of those who lost everything or were injured. They were showing some of the devastated families on CNN this morning & it was awful.

Anyhow, welcome to the forum & I hope you dive right in & quickly feel right at home.

Hello Soup,

thanks for the warm welcome, neat that you have the same interest, what is it that fascinates you about doors?? is it the old doors or new? wood or all glass?? handles or hardware (hinges, door closers?)

now now, hahah easy with making wok for me, that reminds me of someone in high school, they used to notice me, go find the nearest door with a closer and jump up and do a chin-up and wait until the screws came out of doorframe then tell me about it "suddenly just broke" for me to put in longer screws for the kid (or kids) to do it again.

the only other person I know of that ever told me that (wow another person who shares the interest in doors and is ASPIE) is a locksmith (CML, which means Certified Master Locksmith) in Ontario Canada who works on doors and rebuilds door closers (something I would love to do as well) I still hear from him, he too, an aspie and LOVES what he does and has a true passion for his talent in what he loves to do.

my interest in doors also lead to collecting hardware, I have done that since age 12, interest hit me when I was in middle school when I was admiring the classroom door to see the mechanical looking device at the top (LCN 4040 door closer) and could not peel my eyes off it due to how it looked and the way it's arm moved as door shuts.

my collection, 7 commercial type door closers of differnt brands and ages (some are super old!) and about 12 pneumatic screen door type.

as for Sandy, I am more near Philly (mercer county) so all I got was some strong winds, only thing major was that the fence fell down between my and neighbor's house, nothing big, many weren't soo lucky (most of the state/town) lost power, I only lost power for 2 hours on Monday night when the storm made landfall, it got soo bad that the governor had to move Halloween to the 5th of November, due to how dangerous the streets are with fallen trees and powerlines/poles down or flooding.

Hi Hi!!!!! Welcome to AC. It sound like you really like doors. That is interesting. I hope that you find or are able to open your own locksmithing place that would be nice. Well I hope you like it here.
