Hello there. Looking to socialize.

New Member
My name is Dylan and I am 18yo. I have come to this forum in order to socialize as my life has had a complete lack of friendship/socializing since I was 10 yo.

Let's just say I've had a difficult life due to not been diagnosed and intervened correctly as a child. Due to me having a tornado of mental disorders and life circumstances, this is why it has been like this. But before then I had lot's of friends.

I find just seeking and trying to socialize a depressing experience, as I have too many fronts to deal with already, such as poor sleep, torrettes syndrome, etc. So this is why I think socializing online would be a good idea for me as going out into the world routinely is impossible for me.

I'm also at the moment in my life sick of the topic of therapy and mental related things as this has just surrounded my life so much. I know my mental issues inside out and now have a psychiatrist and psychologist that I am pleased with. But the social aspect of my life is a shocker haha.

I would turn it into a game to see how long I could last without a friend in my life, like a Guinness world record. But anyway, adding some social life to my life would benefit me with my current struggles. I'd rather not talk about it as I'm sick of it at this stage, but have some faith that I am doing a great job and I don't need your therapeutic help, I'm here to socialize.

Here are some of my interests, and games I like. We could play some games for steam for example, or just chat generally.

I like racing games, especially rally cars. I'm not really good at it.
WRC10 on steam, it has a co driver mode where one person can call out the pace notes to the driver.

BEAm.NG drive.
Assetto corsa

Don't starve Together,
Overcooked 2, I'm horrible at this game.
Apex legends, although I'll have to reinstall.
FPS games generally, don't play them much anymore but good at them.

I have a lot more games and willing to buy ones to play with ppl.

I'm also interested in music production, sound creating, can beatbox naturally, musically talented without any order. Meaning my music talent is talented but a mess, can't read music but got the talent haha.

Also just interested in a a lot of things generally. my steam name is DylanIZGrillin if you want.

Hey Dylan, welcome! :)
I'm interested in music production too, and I'm also a talented (or so I've been told lol) musician who can't read sheet music :)
Hope you enjoy it here, and hope it will be a good addition to your social life!

Welcome! I gave Don’t Starve Together a try, but I kept dying. I guess surviving is not my strong suit :D

Yes sheet music is tricky although I'm starting to learn it now. I use Synthesia to play my music. It's like guitar hero but for piano/any midi instrument, and modern. you can download a song of the net that you like and play it. Real cool.

I'm wondering do you make sort of made up random music ? Like for me when it comes to music I will do a bit of everything, not really interested in one particular genre/instrument.

I was thinking of getting a 88key midi keyboard recently.

That is cool!!
I do sometimes mess around with Ableton and try to make random music, but I'm mostly a percussionist and I play a lot of percussion instruments!

Those midi keyboards are awesome. Were you looking at synths? What kind?

I have a golblet drum lying around in my wardrobe. It came from turkey. I like hand percussion alot.
Drum and bass genre is also a favorite of mine

I don't have any hardware synths, just a midi keyboard to play software synths. It's a keystep 37.

But since I've been getting into synthesia, and playing songs downloaded off musicscore, I was thinking of buying a M-audio 88 hammer. It's like trying to replicate a real piano in terms of the action and weight of each key.

Do you have a favorite synthesizer? I really like this one

Omg, I am mainly a DnB drummer! It's one of my favorite genres too.
I love hand percussion. If you go to the "what do you collect?" thread on here, you can see a lot of my hand drums and some of my other instruments :) I particularly like frame drums but I also have a gourd drum, a Cajon, a Djembe, and some regular ol' modern drum kits lol.
So cool to have another percussionist on here!

That synth looks really cool. I had a Yamaha MX61 but it's at my parents' house right now. I like the Akai synths a lot! And the Novation LaunchPad but I don't have one yet.

Wow so interesting, I've never heard of the gourd drum. I got interested in the Darbuka, which is a middle eastern drum. That led me onto been interested in other middle eastern instruments, I especially like the santur.

I used to have a launchpad, that was my first MIDI equipment. It was the cheapest one though, I wasn't really happy with it. I'm not a collector of synths, I like to use all the VST software with MIDI control though.

The gourd drum is more of an indigenous people's instrument, I believe. There isn't a lot of information about them online (I've been looking since I got mine! Lol)
It has an interesting sound... kind of a "flat" sound. I've only used it as a hand drum but I've seen people use sticks/beaters for them too.

I was actually just looking into buying a Darbuka! Lol. Looks like we have similar taste in drums!
The santur looks really cool. I haven't seen a lot of instruments like that.
My specialty is European instruments. I have mostly frame drums but I also have a Sopilka (Ukrainian wind instrument, kind of like a flute) and I recently got a piano accordion (given to me by an Eastern European person)
I'm not even European lol, I'm Hispanic-American! I just have a lot of interest in their cultural music.

What didn't you like about the Launchpad?

Yes I saw some guy just playing it flat on the ground upside down. It sounds quite "coconutty".

some years back I did a heap of research into finding a darbuka, I might remember some websites you can buy them off. It's quite a price though, which is why I bought an aluminum turkish one instead of an Egyptian one.

My closet is too full of junk for me to take a picture of it, but the turkish variants look more like a frame drum at the top, where as the Egyptian one more curved and round at the top.

It came from turkey, then sent to the US, then sent to here, Australia. Don't know why it took that trip around the world but anyway lolzy.

When it comes to European instruments, my favorite flute is the Duduk. I also like the Therobo, I'm into the ones that stand out amount the others. I saw this massive double bass on youtube, it was awful to listen to. It was as big as like a shed.

With the launchpad, I think it may be because it was the cheaper launch pad, but I would have to press the button right in the middle firm for it to register, if you hit the square button on the side a bit it didn't count.
