Welcome :D

Feel free to tell us a bit more about yourself. Everyone here's quite supportive, and helpful.

well I am an 18 year old male from Milwaukee and have always felt like I couldn't relate to people very well. I am still quite unsure about the symptoms of Aspergers but it all started when I took an ADHD test with my psychologist. After taking the test, I was shocked to see my results to show that I have Aspergers Syndrome, something That I have never heard of in my life. I scored a 120 on my verbal IQ based off of the WAIS-R (and some other tests) yet I scored a 96 on my performance IQ. I suppose that this is a big discrepancy.

I've always been curious about why I am selectively focused on certain things (such as biology, playing guitar, flying airplanes, or computers and other things) When I was young, I became heavily interested in planes and computers and built my first computer at 10 and flew my first plane at 14. Whilst being interested in these certain areas, I lacked motivation to do school work and continue to have great difficulty with analytical subjects such as English. I am very very good at remembering facts which makes me fantastic at History.

I have always had a sort of social problems with people and have never been able to feel closely related to anyone because I could just not feel them as being the same as me. I was bullied a lot in Sophomore year and used that to sort of hide my social anxiety and put on a fake identity as an outgoing person. The only people who truly know how quiet I really am are my close friends. I'm not sure. I feel like I have many traits of Aspergers yet I also feel like there are many discrepancies between my traits and the "traits" of people with Aspergers. However, I suppose no two people are alike.

Such as being socially inept, I feel like I have a level of social skill yet I feel little relation. My psychiatric evaluation evaluates me as "dominant" and "socially adept especially in circumstances where I am in dominance"

Ohh Guitar and flying is your signature as well as your life. got. it.

ok well what you describe sounds like Autism to me but then I'm just a stranger on the internet after all. *shrug*

the reason I say that though is because I know a lot of people with aspergers irl and they're perfectly ok at communicating but just don't feel that relation, like you were saying- just felt different.

I sometimes wonder if schizophrenia and autism overlap at all . . .

That is actually quite interesting because I have long family history of mental disorders as well as schizophrenia. I have at least 3 relatively close family members who are schizophrenic as well as my uncle who lives with me. Thanks by the way!

Cool, you sound like an interesting person. That's pretty awesome that you can fly planes :D
