Hello. It has recently been brought to my attention that I may 'be on the spectrum'. My wife had friends over and I had been talking to one of them about her pursuing a career as a firefighter. My line of questioning was apparently like an interrogation and I found out a few days later that I had made her question herself and she had cried that night. I had ZERO clue that I was being 'too aggressive' as I was genuinely interested in how such a small woman could lift someone my size (I'm 6'4 230lbs). My wife explained to her that I am like a subdued version of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory during a phone call that was on speaker with me in the room. I thought this was funny but didn't take it too seriously until a conversation occurred at work the next week during which a coworker (I thought jokingly) told another coworker that "Travis is definitely on the Spectrum". I started doing some reading and after taking the AQ and the Aspie Quiz and reading through this forum as well as some threads on Wrong Planet, it seems glaringly obvious that I have Aspergers to some degree. I have always been said to have 'no filter', which I have always taken as a compliment because I do not see the point in being subversive while communicating with others. I get derailed easily if I hear an unrecognizable noise (like a random rattle in a car's dashboard, or the new light bulb above my pool table) and have trouble focusing on what I was doing until I can determine the source. I struggle to calm my mind at bedtime and find it nearly impossible to determine how people are reacting to what I/others are saying. It's nice to have a place to go to find other people who think similarly to myself, which is what the threads on these forums largely seem to be.

I attempted to reply to a thread I found interesting yesterday but could not and thought it was because you had to create a post in order to reply to a thread so now I have. Is this accurate, or was it user error?

Welcome Travis :)

Sounds like you've had a rather interesting week. I hope you're able to find more answers soon enough. You'll find our members are quite friendly, are supportive here, so feel free to join in on our conversations. I also recommend checking the resources section, for AS-related reading material: Autism & Asperger's Resources | AspiesCentral.com

Also, a good book to read: The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome | AspiesCentral.com
