Never been good at introducing myself...

I'm a single father of two. My son and I were both diagnosed as ADHD about a year and a half ago. We originally sought help for my son because we suspected Asperger's. We were told multiple times to just wait and see, and eventually every body we talked to convinced us it was ADHD. I've had lingering doubts since then, and the more I've looked into it the more I've been convinced it Asperger's. Especially when it comes to myself. Not sure what else to say.

Welcome aboard. I was misdiagnosed as add, and it turned out to be high functioning autism. Best wishes.

Hi & Welcome,
Self Diagnosis is very common with HFA. Study the symptoms - use multiple sources and maybe take some self tests available online. HFA can be difficult for medical personal to pick up on. But you know yourself best and if you keep an open mind and do a thorough self examination you should be able to determine if its autism.

I have done a couple of those tests. One came out likely, the other one very likely. And I've spent a lot of time recently reading up on the symptoms and issues from several different sources. I will be seeking expert opinions for my son and I, but it appears to me that we line up with the autistic scale much more than ADHD.

I must say, I like how welcoming this forum has been.

Welcome! There are lots of resources here and I'm sure you've come across already. Quite a few of us are self diagnosed here as well.. I've decided not to go through all the stress and expense of a professional diagnosis myself, but this forum has been incredibly helpful for me.

Just a heads up as you do continue to seek out expert opinion.. the DSM has changed and Asperger's is no longer officially recognized there. Misdiagnosis as something else such as ADHD is very common.

Hello Raydon Raven, welcome to our humble abode.

We may be crazy but we are friendly :D:p

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“’Tis some aspie,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
Only this and nothing more.”
