Hello!

Turanga Veela

Straddling universes
I've been lurking intermittently for a couple of years on Tapatalk, and finally decided to jump in.

My almost-12-year-old son and husband have both been formally diagnosed as Aspies. My difficulties, in some ways, have been more marked than either, so I've self-diagnosed. When I was a kid, diagnoses of autism spectrum disorders were practically unheard of, and I was just that "weird," "antisocial," "gifted and talented," "extremely uncoordinated," "oversensitive," and "shy" kid. It was such a burden lifted to put a name to my differences, and such a gift now that I can offer my son understanding (inasmuch as a tween can be understood by a pestersome adult  ), and help him access some of the resources that were never available to my husband or I.

My obsessions are books and pop culture (especially dystopia -- zombie apocalypses are right up my alley). I also enjoy science, crafting, hiking, and animals. I've been at home with my kids for many years, but in a former life I was an academic and public school library tech. I live in the San Francisco bay area (wine country), but was brought up in the Midwest.

Well, I guess that's it for now. Happy to be here! :grinning:
